Let it Snow!

Happy Hump Day!  Davinie here.  My girls raced into my room this morning to let me know that the wind was blowing so hard that they were afraid it would blow their stuffed animals away if they took them outside, but that they’d better get dressed quick, because it seemed the perfect conditions for flying kites.  While I appreciated their enthusiasm, it certainly didn’t seem ideal to me….   at 6:15am.

I wanted to make a winter project for my post today, something you could use to decorate your home for the next few months.  This is what I came up with:

I purchased the planter at Michael’s for about $3 on sale.  Any type of bucket will do.  The rest of the supplies you’ll need for this project are pictured below:

Styrofoam balls, short push pins, a circle punch, a hole punch, Jack Frost from the Tinsel Town line, and a Silver Berry Pixee Stix.

To create each snowball, simply punch out circles, pierce them in the center with a push pin, and layer them around the styrofoam.  Sporadically I would add a small circle created with a hole punch, and then use the larger circle, just to add dimension.

There is no specific pattern for doing this.  I just filled it in until you couldn’t see the styrofoam anymore.

Once you have your snowballs finished, I decorated my tin, and created a sign.  I felt like my Snowball signed needed to be durable, because it’s sitting outside advertising my wares after all, so I wanted to use a stamp rather than a sticker alpha.  The perfect stamp to use was the Vintage Pop Alpha.  To make it stand out more, I filled in the center of the letters with a Sharpie.  I then added Pixee Stix to a chipboard snowflake and adhered, added my price to a litte price tag I have in my stash, stuck the sign in the center of my pot, and layered the snowballs around it.

This would make a fun gift as well as a fun decoration on a mantle for the holidays, with extra snowballs spread throughout.

The snowballs would also make fun ornaments.  Simply loop ribbon and use a push pin to attach them to the top of your snowball.  Voila!

I hope you have a great day, and that it’s not too blustery where you are!  I wouldn’t want all the stuffed animals at your house to blow away!  :)

Monday Muse – Pop-Pop-Pop!

Good Monday to y’all! Hope everyone is having a great start to their week.

I have created a layout for today’s muse using the new Sweet Cakes papers!  When I started this page I began to realize that I have taken to one of the latest trends. The trend where you don’t end up with flat pages, but bulky pages. I love them! I love the look and the texture it brings to the overall layout. I have been doing this with my pages for a while but it really stood out to me while creating this piece. So what I wanted to do was share some of my techniques in doing this and of course if you have any tips or tricks you do to make things POP POP POP off of your pages please post them in the comments, I’d LOVE to hear them and try some new tricks.

So here’s are some of my most common uses for POPPING as I like to call it… I usually have a big fat roll of the 3M Double Sided Foam Tape. You can find this stuff at Target or Walmart. I LOVE it. And I probably use it on every page. Mostly I use it on my pictures and paper and for added POP I stack the tape on top of each other. For other things I like to use is my hot glue gun. This works well for stickers or alphas. All I do is squeeze a bit out and then blow on it a few second and then press it down on my page. This helps the glue to dry a bit and won’t squish out all over the page, but instead gives it a POP. And for things like chipboard shapes or things I cut out of paper I get out my cardstock and cut out a small rectangle and then glue the two ends together so it forms a circle and then use glue dots to adhere it to my shape and another glue dot to adhere it to my page. A little effort and a big payoff! I love things to POP off of my pages!

I hope you’ll try some of these tips and do share if you have.
Thanks again for visiting the Pink Paislee blog. Take a minute and look around the new site. So much fun stuff going on around here. Rebecca is always blowing our mind! Make sure you look in the “Coming Soon”… My mouth is watering! J

2009 Design Team Search

Hey All!  Big Announcement Today!  What better way to kick off the week eh?  We just realized that 2009 is quickly approaching and that means we need to get our little booties in gear for the New Year.

On January 1st 2009 we will celebrate our first year of business in this industry.  It also marks the day we have a huge blog party planned including the announcement of our 2009 design team.

If you love Pink Paislee and you want to share your Pink Projects with others than keep reading.

I know the one question I will get over and over is this one:  “When you look through our galleries will you be looking for projects where we used Pink Paislee products?” The answer is: Of Course!  But that doesn’t mean we wouldn’t choose you for our team if you didn’t have any Pink Paislee projects in your gallery!  Obviously, we love seeing our products in use but we are confident we will get a pretty good feel for your design style when we review your ENTIRE gallery.  That is why we are asking for links to your gallery or your blog slideshow etc.  We want to get more than a snapshot of your style and your techniques.

So….read the info below and remember….we NEED you and we are excited to learn more about YOU!

Traditional Christmas Colors Christmas Decoration- Yep, it can be done!

Hi All, Katie Watson here.  I hope you’re having a beautiful Fall morning.  I live in California and we are having our very first week of Fall weather!

Despite loving this Fall morning, I have been working on some Holiday gifts already…yep, I am trying to be a good boyscout and “be prepared”!

I am a traditional girl…I really am…but somehow the colors of Tinsel Town have won me over and I am IN LOVE with the hues of Magenta in this line.  Really, I am.

But, while working on my 3rd decoration…I spied the Strawberry glitter….it just sparkled out at me…and thought to myself…”hmmmmm….let’s make this a traditional color decoration”…So I did.  I also found a super cute place to hang it!

I took a banner book and flipped the pages upside down to make the trees.  Lots of glitter and I have a vintage looking verticle banner!

I ended up using 3 different colors of Pixee Stix, Strawberry, Silver Berry and Chocolate.  I also used the “Happy Holidays” stamp, “A Christmas Carol“ paper and the “White Christmas” paper.  I love the way it turned out and hope my daughters teacher likes it, it’s her Christmas present!!

I Have A Confession…

Nothing too juicy, lol…just an observation.

Having been a part of this WAY talented team for almost a year now, there is one thing that I notice every time I see one of the new projects posted.

These ladies have an AMAZING ability to use lots of beautiful Pink Paislee products at one time…tons of detail, a million places for your eyes to look for something you didn’t notice before…it’s often overwhelming to take it all in!!  So here is my confession.

I am not that kind of girl, lol.

It isn’t that I haven’t tried in the past to add pieces here and there and make them ‘fit’…but it just isn’t ‘me’.

And I’m ok with that!

So here is a layout I just finished with ‘Tinsel Town’.

I used a piece of Top Sider chipboard and covered it with the ‘Christmas Story’ paper. Folded a strip of ’34th Street back and forth and placed it under the Top Sider to make a ‘ruffle’ and then cut the trees out of the ‘Polar Express’ paper and plopped them onto the page with a pop dot. Just a few ways to add a bit of dimension to your pages without getting too ‘crazy’, lol.

I also used a few of the new stamps from Tinsel Town to make a few ‘tags’ that I layered together in the top right corner…I am still impressed every time I use one for the first tiime that image is just so darn clear! The border on top of the block of ’5th Avenue’ paper was made with a remnant of that ‘Polar Express’ paper that I punched with a Martha Stewart border punch and then i sanded it a bit. Add a few Pop Fashion alphabet stickers for a title and BAM!! Page completed.

So in the end, I just wanted to stress that while not everyone may be comfortable with layering/lots of detail, etc…it’s ok to be a bit more ‘simple’ in your own work, if that’s your style. I know I’m definitely in that category myself!

Have a great day…and be sure to check out the new Pink Paislee website…HERE!!
