On The 9th Day Of Christmas….

Hello, Michelle here with a little Christmas treat! Its no “nine ladies dancing”, but its pretty cute, I must say! A quick simple paper ornament is a great (and fun!) addition to any tree this holiday season!

If you’d like to make one for yourself, here’s how:
(It’s made completely of Tinsel Town goodies, with a few bright blue scraps thrown in for contrast!)

The “Paislee Postcards” in the Tinsel Town collection have some great flourished shapes to start the base of a paper ornament like this one – choose a shape with a really cool frame that you can cut-out and trim it out of the postcard paper – leaving a small edge around it so you can still see the background pattern peeking out. Now’s the time to stamp and splash some paint on this cut-out if you want to before adding any embellishments to the piece. To thread the ribbon through the paper, roughly lay it out on top across the paper shape where you’d like it placed, mark where you want the ends of the ribbon to go vertically with a pencil, and use a craft knife to cut a slit on each side, a little wider than the width of the ribbon markings. Starting from underneath the paper, thread the ribbon through the slits so that both free ends are on the top of the paper cut-out and the back is tight, tie them in a small bow, and adhere it down in a few places with glue dots. Cut any access ribbon off. To cover the back of the ornament, adhere the paper cut-out on top of a sturdy cardstock so that the back of the ribbon is hidden, and cut away the excess paper around the shape leaving a little bit of color around the edge. Apply a title using rub-ons, and, to embellish the card, hand-cut a few snowflakes and trees from the fabulous Tinsel Town patterned papers (I love the trees, and the snowflakes are really easy to cut around with a good pair of small scissors!), or use rub-ons on patterned paper and hand-cut those out, ink their edges, and adhere them to the card. For the finishing touch, use a hole punch to make a hole near the top of the ornament so you can thread bakers twine or ribbon through to hand your ornament on the tree!

And voila! A cute, simple, handmade ornament to deck the halls or wrap up for a lovely gift!
Happy ornament-making! :)

On the 8th Day Of Christmas…..

My true love gave to me, a present underneath the tree.  :)

To make this gift box ornament, I trimmed a piece of chipboard and covered it with the Tinsel Town paper and added the coordinating ribbon and a made a tag.  I looped the paper and added ribbon in between for a fun dimensional bow,  stamped the “to/from” stamp on paper and trimmed it out with decorative scissors, added glitter, and then tied it on with floss.

This ornament would also make a great cover to a fun Christmas mini album, and could also double as a photo ornament, with a photo beneath the sentiment or on the back.

I hope you are getting a lot of great ornament ideas!  Have a great Monday!

On The 7th Day Of Christmas….

7 Swans A-Swimming???? Or how ’bout just an ornament? MaraMay here today with all that glitters!
I know I must say it a lot, but I really just cannot get enough of the Pixee Stix. They come in thee best colors. One of my faves… This fantastic Green Apple Glitter!

For today’s ornament I used a 3″ white styrofoam ball. You can find these at Michael’s or even your local dollar stores and of course the Wal-mart. To start off I covered the styrofoam ball in a generous coat of matching green acrylic paint. After the paint had set I covered the now green ball in a liquid sealer and while it was still wet I poured the glitter all over it. Let it dry. In the meantime I cut out a 1.5 inch piece of  Tinsel Town’s Christmas Carol paper and then glued Sweet Cakes Double Frill Velvet Ribbon in the center of the paper. As the ball was still drying (the sealer takes a bit longer than paint to dry) I made a bow out of some olive grosgrain and glued a flower and bead to the center of it. Now that the sealer is pretty dry to the touch I glue on my piece of paper with ribbon onto my glittery styrofoam ball. Next I take a gold string of pearls and glue it to fill in the gap between the paper and the ball. After that I get out my buttons and pins and stick them directly into the styrofoam. Finally I glue a few flowers to the top add a loop of ribbon to hang my ornament and lastly glue on my grosgrain bow. And ta-da I have created a glittery masterpiece. :)

I hope you’ve been inspired to create some of your own glittery ornaments today. If you do be sure to share them over in the Pink Paislee Gallery. I’m off to go make some more of these spectaculars to hang all over my house! :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and be back here tomorrow for more ornament inspiration and instructions!

On The 6th Day Of Christmas….

Hi Everyone!  Nicole H. here…..

So I thought I would be a bit ‘different’ with my ornament…here goes!!

Being that I love all things old and vintagey (and these papers support that beautifully!!), i thought I’d make a newer version of an old ornament that hangs on my tree every year…the infamous Mama Thornsberry Yo-Yo Tree. What is that, you ask?? Why…it’s this!!

My mom used to take old scraps of fabric from whatever project she was working on and make ‘yo-yos’ out of them. Then she would sew 6 of them together to make a ‘tree’ to hang on the branches of our own tree at Christmas time. So I made my own version…using a 3 inch circle punch and some thread! Just punch out circles of whichever Pink Paislee Tinsel Town papers you prefer, and then crumple them up really well in your hands. (while mine were crumpled, i sanded them a bit too) You really want to smoosh the paper a couple of times so that it has a bit of ‘give’. Then you uncrumple it, and make holes all around the outside edge with a paper piercer…mine were about every 1/2 inch. Next, take a needle and some embroidery floss…and go in and out of the holes all the way around, cinching it in as you go. Be careful…don’t try to cinch it all at once at the end, or it will destroy your paper. (it’s ok if it rips through a hole or two…once you pull them together at the end you can’t notice it)

Tie the ends together when you get all the way around, and then kind of ‘arrange’ it to lay flat. After you make 6 of these, grab your needle and embroidery floss again and sew them together to make the tree. Attach a piece of the Tinsel Town trim to the top, a glittery tree trunk, a rub-on or two with a stamp and VOILA!! A cool ornament to add to your tree! (i also painted a bit of pink paint onto the tops of my yo-yos…just for fun!)

Again, just remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect…I busted a few of my tries in the beginning, but after sticking with it I had a blast!

On the 5th Day of Christmas……

Hi, Katie Watson here to add more ornaments to our Ornament Countdown.  I also am a lover of vintage and agree with Anabelle that Tinsel Town is perfect for that style.  I went for more of a country vintage look with my ornaments… I also love to go to Estate Sales and incorporate little vintage finds in with my work.  Tinsel Town was the perfect line for this look and style.

And this is exactly what I did with my first ornament.  I found a doilie quilt that was just ragged on the back….but perfect to cut apart and use pieces of it on ornaments, home decor and mini books.

I just used a star page from a chipboard album, covered it with Tinsel Town- Nutcracker paper, outlined it with Pixee Stix- Silver Berry glitter…then pleated matching ribbon to back the doilie(you could easily recreate this doilie with paper, fabric or felt), added some sequin trim, a pearl to the center and adhered it down.  Then I used the “Warm Wishes” phrase from the Tinsel Town pressons and made a little little strip to adhere it on…outlined that in Sugar PlumPixee Stix glitter also and attached it to a piece of silver pipe cleaner that I curled the ends of.  I then adhered that right above the doilie and hung it using more silver pipe cleaner.  Added a bow and voila, done.

For the next one, I used a vintage sugar bell that I bought at an LSS in my city that carries little vintage finds and made a banner ornament.  I used a page from a chipboard banner book and cut the White Christmas paper to cover it.  I then lined the inside edges with sequin trim and added ruffled ribbon to the outer side edges (attached to the back) to frame it.  With small scallop edge scissors, I cut out the “Christmas Wishes” from the Paislee Postcards paper.  I backed it with embossed vellum strip and then mounted it in the center of the ornament using pop dots for dimension.  I then added a little ribbon rose and 5th Avenue paper leaves (made from a punch).  I attached the sugar bell to the bottom, punched out a scallop border of vintage music paper, added pom pom trim and a glittered (Once again, the Silver Berry Pixee Stix) snowflake.  I hung it by a piece of silver pipe cleaner with a bow tied on it.  Easy enough.

Because I was totally in the mood for making ornaments, I did one little extra one.  I used a page of a chipboard book (it was a flower petal page) and covered it with 5th AvenuePaper and then inked the edge withgreen ink.  I outlined the edge with black and white pen to frame it a bit.  I snipped off the top to make it look more like a bulb and wrapped silver pipe cleaner around it to look like the metal top, then added some pom pom trim to the base. I used the “Winter Bliss” presson from the Tinsel Town pressons and scallop trimmed the edges and adhered it on top of a glittered snowflake.  I adhered the glittered (Silver Berry Pixee Stix) snowflake to the middle of the bulb.  I hung the ornament by a wire ornament hanger and tied a bit of bakery twine to the top.

I hope that we all have inspired you to create lots of beautiful ornaments for family and friends this year.  Check back in with us tomorrow and the following days…as we have more ornaments to show you in our 12 Days of Christmas Blog Fest!
