Celebrating Earth Day on a Wacky Wednesday!

Happy Earth Day, folks! What will you be doing for the Planet today? I will be going to a neighbourhood recycling centre to deposit my recyclables, which I’ve already separated into bags of papers, plastic, glass and metals. Then I’m making a trip to the local Salvation Army (or Goodwill) for a bout of second-hand shopping! *cross fingers* I hope to find some ribbons, rattan baskets, artificial flowers or boxes that I can re-use for my scrapping projects! Yes, shopping can be Earth-friendly too!

In celebration of Earth Day, I created this layout titled simply ‘Saving GAIA’, with a simple urge to living green and saving life. For this layout, I went slightly WACKY on my Enchanting Chipboard Elements Pack and instead of using the tree trunk chipboard from the pack as an embellishment, I used it as an alpha for the layout’s title. The tree bark print on this chipboard was perfect for the Earth Day message! To further hone the theme of being environmentally-friendly, I cut small strips from scraps of Pink Paislee patterned papers I had from previous projects and used them as sunrays at the top corner of my layout – nothing wasted!

Why not create a little layout or project in celebration of Earth Day using your favorite Pink Paislee products too? Post it on your blog, public galleries and also at Live Pink so that we can spread the word of living environmentally-conscious together!

Have fun, I’m off to hug a tree! :)

Manic Monday

Hi  guys! I hope you are all enjoying a beautiful spring day! :)

Since today is Manic Monday, anything goes!!!  I’m changing things up a bit by fast forwarding to an autumn project.

I couldn’t resist making something for fall, with all of the beautiful rich colors of the Fetching line.  After a recent visit to my parents home, my kids and I collected a bunch of leaves, twigs, and acorns, while on a short nature walk.  I came up with the following project, using some of the twigs I found.

This project can easily be adjusted for anytime of the year, if you omit the “autumn” press-on. My hubby even said, “I wouldn’t mind having this in my office!!!”  Hmmmm – Father’s Day coming up!!!

This is a fairly simple project.   I just altered a wood picture frame (from Michael’s) with paint and a crackle medium. Then, I covered it with the Confident patterned paper.  I used the Border TopSiders to make a frame, then I covered it with the Rugged patterned paper.  Then, I pleated some thin strips of Spirited patterned paper and adhered it to the top of the chipboard.

For the bird, I sandwiched a couple layers of scrap chipboard between two pages of a bird chipboard album. I covered the sides and surface with patterned paper, and then added the third page on top, after covering and embellishing it with patterned paper.

One of my favorite Chipboard Elements has to be the little leaf branch.   For this project, I cut the leaves apart, added some Pixee Stix glitter (to some of the leaves), and then adhered the leaves onto the twig branches.

I hope I’ve managed to give you some decorative ideas for your home, whether it’s for autumn, Father’s day or all year round!

Thanks for stopping by – Have a great week!

Spring-y Saturday Sketch with Melissa…

Happy Saturday everyone!

Today I have a fun sketch for you to try created just for the Pink Paislee blog by my friend Valerie Salmon from Got Sketch?.

Her sketches are always so much fun and full of versatility. They are beautiful turned on their side, upside down, or left alone. I chose to create my card based off the sketch as you see it now.

I used Pink Paislee paper from the Fascinating and Spring Fling collections.  The cardstock sticker is from the Fascinating sticker book, and the card is topped off with stitching, acrylic paint, gems, ribbon, and a butterfly punch.  Simple and easily transformed into a card for any occasion.

Thanks to Valerie once again for sharing one of her wonderful sketches with us.
