Thursday Trends: Scallops

They are everywhere!  Die cut papers with a scalloped edge (like this one, this one, and this one, being just a few that Pink Paislee offers), scalloped circles, scalloped punches…I could go on and on.  Scallops seem to have taken over many layouts that I’ve seen in various galleries.

Here, I created a layout using the Fascinating line.  I chose the smallest print paper, Spectacular, for my background, then cut strips that are about two inches wide of the remaining papers.  I used my border punch on all of the strips, except for Bewitching (that already had the scalloped edge), then layered them onto my background page.  I also did some hand cutting using the Irresistible patterned paper and added some Licorice Pixee Stix glitter to add some sparkle.  I added a sticker from the Sticker Book, some tiny alphas covered in glitter, and my title, then stitched a frame around it all to finish my page off.

Early wishes for a great and happy weekend!

Introducing….Katrina Huerta {Our April Guest Artist}

Hello, my name is Katrina.  I have been scrapbooking since 2004 and I love it. My intention was just to find a creative way to showcase my photos. I had no idea how much I would truly love this hobby or where it would take me.

I love working with patterned paper, chipboard, flowers and buttons. You are sure to find at least one (if not all) of these things on every single one of my layouts/projects. Other than scrapbooking I love to hang out with my wonderful family, read and learn more about photography.

I am honored and thrilled to be designing for Pink Paislee this month. Thank you so much for this opportunity.

We asked Katrina to show off our Fetching collection and of course she did just that!  I can’t tell you how many years I have admired Katrina’s layouts and how many times I have been inspired by the way she layers her papers!   We are thrilled to show off what she did with Pink Paislee below.

A BIG THANK YOU to Katrina for joining us this month and showing us just how gorgeous these papers and embellishments can be!  If you would like to learn more about Katrina you can visit her blog HERE.

Tasty Tuesday… Quickie Invite

Hello ladies, and happy Tuesday! We like to call it “Tasty Tuesday” around here and, today, I have a tasty little party invitation to share with you. I’m always looking for ways to make my kids’ birthday parties a little out of the ordinary… elaborate cakes, a unique theme, handmade decorations, etc. This year, I decided to make some cute little cupcake invitations.

I kept the design fairly simple because my daughter wanted to help put the cards together, and I wanted to make it easy enough for her to work with. Also, I had to make several of these, and didn’t want to take a whole week to do it! Tee hee!

The chipboard base for the cards was the packaging from a set of cupcake magnets that I found in the dollar bin at Michael’s. I included the cupcake magnets in the goody bags that were handed out at the party. But, if you are unable to find the magnet sets, there are a couple of large chipboard cupcake designs available through various scrapbooking stores. Those would work just as well!

My duties in the assembly line included covering each cupcake with patterned papers (all from the Sweet Cakes line). First, I covered the entire chipboard piece with a piece of Honey Bunch paper. I used the Sugar Pie paper with the scalloped edge to make the “paper cup” that lined the bottom of each cupcake. Then, I traced the muffin top of the cupcake onto an additional piece of Honey Bunch paper, and cut it out. This will make the flap of the card that lifts up to reveal the party details… adhere it with a small dot of adhesive under the cherry onto the top of the card. For the “cherry” itself, I cut out a circle of Cupcake Cutie, and added it to the top of the card. Then, I trimmed off the top of a lollipop chipboard flower from the Fascinating Chipboard Elements, and popped that right on top of the card. My final responsibility in the assembly line was to stamp out a bunch of the labels from the Fancy Frames set in black ink, and adhered them with Pop Dots to the top of the card.

Then, I turned the assembly line over to Hazel. She glued on all of the sequin “sprinkles,” added the alphas to spell out “join us,” and glued down the paper strips that I printed from my computer and cut up for the party details under the flap.

Then I finished off the card with some glue and glitters to give it a little extra somethin’-somethin’. We both had a great time putting these cards together… a nice mother-daughter afternoon. And, it was a wonderful way to get her more involved in planning her own bash this year! I hope you all give this a go with your little ones… the invitations were a hit with all of our guests!
