Amber road loveliness!

Creating a meaningful, pretty page was so easy for me having all the fabulous coordinating pieces that go with…*NEW* Amber Road at my finger tips. My page for today’s blog post, is about my sweet little boy and is designed to resemble a wrapped gift…hence the play on words for the title. The flower in the center turned out so well that I thought I’d put a tutorial together for you. Take a look below.

You will need the following to make the flower:

Fold the strips in half & secure. Glue the stamped compass onto the scalloped circle.

To make positioning the strips evenly & make glue marks on the underside in a star shape. Attach the folded strips & narrow strips.

Cover glued underside with a scrap of paper to neaten. Make stitch holes around the compass image & back stitch with orange thread. Insert brad & you’re all done!

Seeing as I made another flower for this tutorial, I thought it shouldn’t go to waste so used it for a cute card, using the same design idea as the my layout!

Thanks for stopping by…..I really hope you enjoyed the tutorial!
NB: Remember to post your amazing creations in our gallery over at LivePink.
Have a super day!

Saturday Sketches Time!

Honestly, I’ve been pretty intimidated by sketches possibly because I believed that you had ‘strictly’ abide to the designs of the sketches. However after some ‘consultation’ by other scrapbookers who told me to treat sketches as starting points of the creative process and to use them as ‘inspiration’ instead of ‘rigid rules’, I jumped right in to creating the layout below.

I used a sketch (#27) from Inspired Blueprints for this Saturday’s layout. As you can see, I changed some placements of elements on my final layout for example where my ribbon and journaling spot eventually settled at. But you know what, I am totally fine with that. I jumped into this sketch to use it as a source of inspiration for a layout that eventually feels like ‘ME’. And although the layout doesn’t really look like the original sketch, I am really happy with it. And I had fun creating it! Well, the new Pink Paislee Cupid papers and embellishments of course helped! lol.

Here are some closeups of the layout.

So if you were ever hesitant to using sketches like I was, I hope today you will try something new and jump right in to one like I did! Have a sketch-a-licious Saturday!

introducing elizabeth carney…our august guest artist

Hey there! I’m Elizabeth and I currently reside in WA with my awesome family!  My guy Dayv, {pronounced Dave} who serves in the USAF, is my best friend and also an incredible hubby and father.  We have our beautiful daughter Alyssa who’s 12, and let me not forget about our beloved dogs, Jake and Kira!  They are all subjects for this hobby and many projects too.  I work part time at Starbucks as a supervisor, and I love my job but don’t like coffee {sssshh don’t tell anyone!}.  I also love to read, garden, hang with my family, laugh until it hurts and live my life to the fullest!

I’ve been scrapbooking over 10 years now and have grown and changed so much through this kickin’ hobby! I’ve been blessed to of been published in various magazines and enjoy the process of creating from start to finish! Scrapbooking is a way for me to keep my sanity on top of sharing memories with those that I love by creating lasting moments.

I consider it an honor that I am Pink Paislee’s August guest designer! Thank you for believing in me!

my designs for pink paislee: (featuring the new Amber Road collection)

These are all gorgeous and one thing is for sure…black and white photos really pop on our new Amber Road papers!  I love how Elizabeth used subtle punches of the red accents to pack a punch.

Please help me give a shout out to Elizabeth for showing off her talents here on our blog this month.  We really appreciate our guest designers every month and Elizabeth was so patient with me this month as I am way late posting her gorgeous creations!

BeWitched By Twilight! – Thursday’s Trends

What’s going to be one of the hottest trends hitting the streets for Halloween this year?   It’s the new Twilight collection from Pink Paislee, of course!!  The hip, modern witch is sure to be “Bewitched” by the hot new styles in footwear that have been gracing the runways of Paris, Milan, and London lately.  However, don’t despair if you can’t afford these “high end” must have fashions.   I’m going to show you how to get the same fabulous look, for a fraction of the cost!!!

I know…I know…I’m stretching it a bit. :)   But, after creating a witch hat a couple weeks ago, I thought it would be fun to create another “BeWitching” accessory…footwear!

Today, I’ll be sharing with you how to create this fun boot from Christmas tree ornaments, scraps of chipboard, and recycled cardboard.  Once you know how to create the boot, you can use the same design for all sorts of occasions (other than Halloween).  This can be done by simply changing the patterned papers and embellishments.

Below (in PIC. 1) you can see the Christmas stocking in it’s original form.

PIC.2 shows two stocking cut-outs, sandwiched together using chipboard strips (I used the string to hold everything in place while the glue dried).

PIC.4 displays what your strips should look like.  They do not need to be perfect.  Because you will not see them after the project is complete.  Basically, they are just holding the wood pieces together for the next step (which you can see in PIC.3).  Note: Cut “V” shaped notches along the sides of the strip.  The black lines on the chipboard strip indicates score lines. The scoring and notches, will help the chipboard bend more easily around the curves of the boot.

PIC. 3 also shows how I wrapped the boot using cut strips of recycled cardboard (photo paper packaging)  while leaving an opening at the top.

Once the boot is covered  with cardboard, trim and sand the edges. If the cardboard you used has a glossy finish sand the surface lightly also.  Next cover all sides of the boot with patterned paper. I used Nightfall for the sides and Dusk on the sole and back.

Sunset patterned paper was applied to the front, then sprayed with Bamboo Leaf, Shimmerz Spritz.  This step will add a little sparkle and contrast, as you can see above.

When you are finished covering all sides of the boot, you can begin on the details.  Below you can see the main pieces of chipboard you will need to complete the project.  The four pieces in the top row were cut out of two scalloped ovals from the TopSiders – Shapes chipboard set.  The two border strips were cut from one of the borders from the Topsiders – Borders chipboard set.  Next, the boot cuffs were cut from two of the bracket shaped borders; also from the TopSiders – Borders chipboard set.

Here are some of the chipboard pieces – after I covered them with patterned paper, and then stitched them with embroidery floss.

Note: After covering the two chipboard borders with paper, then use a hole punch (I used the Crop-A-Dile) to punch out holes to create eyelets.  You can then lace with ribbon, before adhering it to the front of the boot.

The heel of the boot was made out of small wood parts (that I had laying around), a small toy wheel, a round disc, and a ball knob. They were all covered with patterned paper, spritzed with more Shimmerz Spritz, glued together, and then embellished. Glue a dowel into the hole of the ball knob, then drill a small hole into the heel of your boot, and then push the dowel into it.  Apply glue to the inside of the boot (using a hot glue gun) to secure the dowel in place.

The cuff of the boot is a mixture of chipboard and fabric.  AppIy the paper covered chipboard pieces to each  side of the boot.  Then cut a section of one of the fabric Patches, spritz it with Bamboo Leaf, Shimmerz Spritz, and then adhere it to the front of the boot cuff.  I used some scrap strips of fabric to line the inside of the boot, I let the raw edges hang over the top of the boot, and then glued them in place.

The stocking in the boot is a sock that was embellished with ribbon.  It can be filled with candy or stuffed with batting to help it hold it’s shape.

Have fun embellishing the rest of your boot with Press-Ons, Punchouts, Bella Brads, or whatever else takes your fancy.

Have fun!  Trick or Treat, smell my feet, give me something good to eat!!!!! :)

Tasty Tuesday – Snacks Tin

Hi everyone!  It is Tasty Tuesday, and I have a little treat for you.  I made a snack tin for my daughter using a small domed lunchbox tin and the awesome products from the new Cupid line.  It is delicious!!!

First, I removed all of the hardware from the tin.  (Luckily that was an option with this tin.)  I covered the front, back, bottom, and sides, and then I did a little light sanding of the edges.  I then reattached all of the hardware.

Next, I used one of the die-cuts from the new Punch Outs pack and chipboard letters from the new Expressions line to personalize it.

And just to pretty it up, I added a bow, the tag, and a little label just to remind her what the tin was intended for.  I cut the little tag and flowers from the patterned paper in the collection and added Whimsies cardstock stickers from the Expressions line.

Pink Paislee products used-  CupidBow and Arrow, Bullseye, Hearts Bloom, Postcards, Eternal Love, Punchouts, Expressions Glitter Alphabets (Limeade), Expressions Whimsies Alphabets (Chocolate)

Hope you all enjoyed this fun, little project.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
