Big Hugs and Warm Wishes – Friday’s Feelings!

Happy Friday, guys!!!  Well today’s focus is suppose to be all about feelings and journaling! I don’t know about you, but gift giving at holiday time, always gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling inside, especially when it’s a gift I’ve handmade!

I decided to alter a picture frame for my mother-in-law,  as a gift from the kids for Christmas this year.  To make this gift more personal I added a little pocket (Kraft Envelope) to the center of the frame, so the kids could add little notes, to Grandma!

This is a really easy project to put together. All you’ll need is a picture frame, a kraft envelope, some raw chipboard, a few embellies, your pictures and of course your Pink Paislee supplies. For this frame I mainly  used papers and embellishments from the Mistletoe & Co. collection.

To give the snowman strength and some thickness, I glued three layers of chipboard together, before cutting out the pieces.

Draw, or use template to trace the snowman design onto the chipboard. Above, you can see the 3 pieces of chipboard after they were cut out.

Once your pieces are cut out, you can begin covering them with patterned paper and embellishments. Cover the brim of the hat and the nose before gluing them into place.  I used Mistletoe & Co. Patches and the star stamps from the Mistletoe & Co. Impressions Stamp Set on the hat, as you can see in the finished piece.

Next, cover the wood frame with patterned paper using Mod Podge adhesive.

Paint the inner edges of the frame with brown paint.

Adhere the snowman to the back of the frame, making sure to leave access to your pictures.

Apply patterned paper, Punchouts, Bella Brads and Press Ons to the kraft envelope, then attach it to the center of the frame.

Use the template to trace and cut out the mittens. You’ll need two mitten cut outs for the left and two for the right. Stitch each set together leaving an opening at the bottom.

Stitch, then apply the die-cut snowflakes to the front of each mitten. Note: The felt snowflakes where originally white. I wanted them to match the worn, antique look of the patterned papers, so I soaked them in a hot tea solution first, to stain them.  Of course, if you have cream snowflakes, that would work too!!! :)

Adhere the twigs (arms) to the back of the frame using a wood glue or hot glue gun. Then secure the gloves onto the twigs with glue also.

Lastly, use the Mistletoe Postcards to add journaling.

wacky wednesday – think outside of the box

Literally!  With the holidays just around the corner, I decided to focus my project this month on Christmas gifting.  If you are anything like me (and I am sure some of you are), you wait until the VERY last minute to get something together for the teacher, the bus driver, the mailman, etc.  I am terrible about that.  The bad thing is that when it is time to actually get something together, it is usually the night before and too late to go the store to buy a card or gift box/bag.  So, I decided to show you how to get a little creative.

For the gift box, I used the clear container from one of my Winsome Chipboard packs.  I just cut off the little hang tab, and decorated it with paper, a die-cut, and Borderlines clear sticker from the Mistletoe and Co. collection.  I also added a little candy and ribbon, and it is all ready to go.

Since I was going with a clear packaging, I decided to make a matching card.  I used the clear cover from one of the Winsome sticker books for the card base.  Added paper, a rub-on, and canvas patch from the Mistletoe and Co. collection also.  I cut the tree from the canvas patch out to use on the front of the card.  (I am planning on using the frame of the patch on a later project.  ;) )  I then added some ribbon and a gem to finish off the card.

Pink Paislee products used-  Mistletoe and CoNorth Pole, Reindeer Games, Patches, Borderlines, Press Ons, Punchouts

I hope you will keep this project in mind when you are looking to make up a quick little card and gift box for someone on your Christmas list.  You really don’t have to look any farther than your own scrapbook stash.

Hope you all have a happy Thanksgiving.  Thanks for stopping by!

Manic Monday-Mixing Patterned Papers

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend!  Today I’m going to share with you a layout that I created using several different patterned papers from the CHA Summer Release.  I love how versatile each of the collections are and how you can use them for everyday projects.  When I pulled out my papers and was trying to decide where to start with this layout, I accidentally laid out the aqua blue Cupid paper, Bow and Arrow, on top of the orange polka dotted Eclipse paper from the Twilight collection, and I loved the aqua and blue combo, so I added some black and cream from different collections and loved the end result.

For the background, I chose the backside of the Love Potion paper from the Cupid collection.  I then added a wide strip of the black dotted paper (back side of Nightfall from Twilight) that was the same width as my photo.

At the bottom of my photo, I added a strip of the front side of the Nightfall paper and some hand cut scallops from the same paper that ran along the edge. So, while this paper may have a Halloween or spooky feel to it, I was still able to use many parts from it to create an everyday layout.

To finish my layout off, I tucked some punched circles, made from the Eclipse patterned paper, underneath the left side of the black dotted paper and used 12 inch strips of paper from the Cupid, Twilight, and Amber Road collections along the sides of my photo.

I had a few extra punched circles, so I flipped them over to use as circle accents on my layout, and to house some fortunes and a flower embellishment that was made with ribbon, a chipboard button from the Winsome collection and a brad from the Mistletoe and Co. collection.  The title letters are also chipboard letters from the Winsome collection.

Don’t be afraid of using themed papers for your everyday layouts!

Have a good week! :)

Saturday Sketches

Good morning Pink fans! Today, am bringing to you a lovely sketch from Pencil Lines! They always have such lovely sketches, and this design by Maisa Mendonca is no exception! Here’s the sketch I chose…

I whipped out one of my favorite Pink Paislee lines of all time: Mistletoe & Co., played around, and came up with this interpretation…

And, I even made a fabric flower using one of the patches, and my paper flower tutorial from last month to create this page accent…

This was such a fun sketch to create from, and I loved how it turned out! If you find yourself inspired to take a spin at this sketch yourself, feel free to add your creations to our member project gallery so that we can all enjoy your creative interpretations!

Introducing brenda hurd…our november guest artist

Hi!  My name is Brenda Hurd, I live in Utah with my husband and 3 beautiful children.  I have been scrapbooking for over 15 years – I started when my hubby left on his LDS mission and kept sending all of his pictures home to me!  But I have to say my LOVE for this hobby actually started almost 9 years ago when I had my first baby.  Since then it has been a growing passion and still grows every day.  I love to watch my kids look through the books and act like it’s the first time they have seen the pictures or read the story.  Makes all the time, effort and money worth it.  It also provides an outlet for me – when I need ‘mommy time’ or just let my frustrations out – they seem to come out great on paper – now if I could incorporate that at the gym!  I love being creative in some way every day – and I love knowing that one day – my legacy will be documented.  I loved the opportunity of working with Pink Paislee products – this christmas line is FABULOUS and has to be my fave.

It was great to see Brenda’s design style again this year.  Brenda represented us at a Memory Works event earlier this year and we loved her work and her style.  I love how she adds just the perfect amount of paint and accents to finish it off! One thing I have noticed is that every one of her projects looks so unique!

Thanks so much Brenda for sharing your talents and inspiration with us this month!
