Introducing amanda muirhead….our december guest artist

Hey everyone!  My name is Amanda Muirhead.  I live in beautiful Prince Edward Island, Canada, home to the land of red soil and Anne of Green Gables. I am married to my high school sweetheart and we have a precious 4 year old daughter, Larissa.  I started scrapbooking about 10 years ago but my passion for this craft grew tremendously when Larissa was born.   I have always loved pretty papers, glitter, writing tools and basically anything crafty so scrapbooking was a natural hobby for me to pick up.  I love everything about scrapbooking so it never feels like a chore or obligation…just having fun with the benefit of preserving memories for my family.

I want to thank Pink Paislee for this wonderful opportunity to show off the Cupid collection and thank you for checking out my creations!

amanda’s creations for pink paislee:

FINALLY we get to share our December guest artist with our blog readers today.  We had such a busy jam packed blog this month (remember those 12 days of christmas giveaways???) and unfortunately Amanda was forced to wait until the end of the month to share her creations.  Not only did we make her wait all month we made her wait all year!  Last January we selected our 2009 guest artists and Amanda held the title for December which meant she had to wait all year to receive her goodie box and get started.  Let me tell you it was completely worth the wait!  If you aren’t convinced that you need some of this Cupid collection after seeing these amazing layouts then you are just plain silly!  We love how she created a bowtie out of the canvas patch, used the xoxo clear stamp repeatedly to create a border and we love all the fun ways she layered our punchouts!  Gorgeous gorgeous work.

To get to know Amanda better we invite you to visit her BLOG HERE.

A huge thank you to Amanda for waiting every so patiently to get crafty with a little bit of Pink Paislee.  She told us she used up every inch of what we sent to her and I totally believe it.

Manic Monday for Daughters

I love doing Manic Monday Posts, anything goes, and that is always alot of fun especially when it comes to scrapping.  I created this fun shelf for my daughters room using the gorgeous  “Cupid” Collection to store all her cute little Russ Design Animals.  I must admit this collection is just so beautiful and it has all the colors that I love, and all the embellishments are just stunning.

I used the gorgeous “Cupid Postcard” pattern paper, and the “Cupid Punchouts” for the back of each self for added interest.

I covered the shelves with “Cupid Bows and Arrows” “Cupid Hearts Bloom” and “Cupid Bullseye” pattern papers, they were all perfect.

As you can see it fits the cute little Russ Design Animals perfectly, Sarah loved it, but you could also use it for Flower Jars and buttons etc., in your very own scrapping room etc.,

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and enjoy the New Year, and have fun scrapping.

All the very best.

Saturday Sketch

Happy Boxing Day everyone!!! I used to be a fervent Boxing Day shopper but I’ve since given up…instead, I sit in the comfort of my home (instead of battling crowds) and am getting ready to go eat yet another turkey dinner with family this afternoon. Aaaahhhh, it’s so liberating not to be hunting for those hot deals, lol.

I realized last night that this would be my  last blog post for Pink Paislee. A year ago, I had applied for the design team with very little hope of being chosen. After all, I was pretty much an unknown name in the scrapping world and Pink Paislee is one of those teams that everyone is dying to design for. Imagine my surprise when I saw my name on the blog when the announcement went up. WOW. I still remember the shock and amazement like it was yesterday. A year later, I couldn’t be happier with my Pink Paislee experience. The products rock, the team blows my mind every month with their creativity, and Rebecca is an amazing boss. I’m a bit sad that this is my last post but as the saying goes…all good things must come to an end.

What I’m not sad about is that my last blog post came on Sketchy Saturday. You see, I have a thing for sketches. I love them and hoard them like others hoard patterned paper. The last sketch that I fell in love with is this one from Debbie Hodge. I love it because I scrap 4×6 pictures a lot and I sometimes find it hard to scrap portrait and landscape pictures together.

Based on that sketch, here is my layout. All products are from the Mistletoe & Co. collection. I ran out of T’s so I used an ‘L’ with one of the curvy chipboard shapes (love those!) to create my T. I love how it turned out! I also created postage stamp edges on the tags with my pinking shears. This is a pretty literal interpretation of the sketch and I hope you that you’ll find this sketch as inspiring as I did!

Have a great weekend everyone!

‘Twas the night before Christmas {Trend alert}

Are you all frantically trying to get everything finished?? Is the to-do list still a mile long…..are the children hyper with the thought of Santa’s visit tonight? If you answered YES to more than one of these questions, then you need a well deserved break. Go & grab your self something delicious & warm to drink & pull up a chair……I’ll wait……

OK, all settled? I know it isn’t a holiday themed page but I thought you might want to update your Christmas list for Santa at the last minute after seeing this delicious collection.

This page highlights a BIG scrapping trend right now. Have you noticed whimsical clouds floating across pages & gorgeous butterflies dancing through gardens of hand made flowers? Well I certainly have & thought I’d put a page together doing just that, using the *NEWLY RELEASED* Cupid Collection!

  • Using a piece of Bow & Arrow roughly draw yourself some cloud shapes on the underside & cut them out. Then take a fine tipped black pen & carefully doodle a line around the edges for emphasis.
  • For the butterfly fold a piece of paper in half & cut any butterfly shape . If you don’t feel confident to do this, a stamped, punched  or die cut one will do just as well. Again doodle around the edges of the wings.  Some green glittery feelers from the Limeade Expressions Glitter Alphabet sticker sheet will finish her off beautifully!

  • Next you need to grow a flower garden, using Hearts Bloom paper, a pair of sharp little scissors & a lot of patience, cut out a variety of flowers, stems & leaves. Use 3D puff squares to layer them & add dimension to the blooms as well as dimensional glaze here & there for extra twinkle.
  • The next step is to cut a mini bracket shape out of the Hearts & Bloom pink gingham, doodling the edge like the other elements.
  • Cut a few extra shapes from the Cupid-Postcard paper in case you need more for layering.
  • Now with all your newly made accents layer them together with your photographs onto a base page made with Cupid Bullseye.

So be honest …are you feeling a bit more relaxed & ready to tackle the rest of you day? I sure hope so!!
I’d like to finish off wishing you a VERY Merry Christmas & wonderful holiday time with your family & friends! I really hope Santa is generous to you all & fills your stockings jam packed with some Pink Paislee gorgeousness!!! Remember to take a look in the Live-Pink gallery for more Cupid inspiration from our talented design team!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!

Pocket Protectors {an easy way to save epherma}

Scrapbooking began with an idea to preserve memories.  Newspaper clippings and ephemera were part of the roots of this art form.  I started scrapbooking in the modern form a bit after my eldest daughter was born, but I guess you could really say I’ve been doing it for most of my life.  I utilized that rubber cement like nobody’s business in my youth, saving movie stubs and pictures of my friends.

As we moved to modern times, we became concerned with products being acid free, and we lost a bit of that nostalgia in saving special things and using them on our projects.  However, a growing trend is to bring that idea back.  Vintage items and ephemera are starting to make a bigger impact on our layouts again.

Because my girls are small, I love to make sure to take the time to record their little hands and their first bits of handwriting whenever I can.  In fact, that’s been something I’ve been trying to do more since my Grandfather first started to show signs of Alzheimers.  He had the best handwriting and whenever he sent a Christmas card or a little note, I made sure to save it, because it’s such a personal thing and once they are gone, they are gone.  I’m so glad I have a signature from him, here and there.  The same goes for my girls.  Soon enough the way they write will change, and I don’t want to forget how innocent it once looked.

It’s the Christmas season, and our mailbox has been deluged with catalog after catalog of Christmas ideas.  Before recycling them, however, I’ve encouraged my girls to go through and pick out what things they like for their Chrsitmas lists.  At first they were cutting pictures out, but then Morgan decided she wanted to write hers out, so she would bring me a catalog and ask where the information was on the toy she liked.  She’s 5 and just learning to read.

What cracked me up when I first saw her list was things like “assembly required” and other bits of information in the description that she kept writing.  I don’t know what the toy is, but it looks like I might need to get my screwdriver handy.  ha!

Because these Christmas lists are just so darn cute, I wanted to make sure I save them, so I created a simple layout with a great big pocket to put them all inside.

I used Mistletoe & Co. and some of the new Cupid line for this layout.  I think they work well together for a sweet Christmas project.

I started with Naughty or Nice and created a pocket with Cupid’s Bow and Arrow and a touch of Bullseye at the top.  I layered a Cupid Borderline sticker at the top of my pocket, and then stitched around the red perimeter of my layout, leaving the top of my pocket open.  To finish it off I added a couple of Cupid Bella brads, some cording, and a snowflake to dress it up.

I then used blue ink to stamp a couple of trees from the MIstletoe & Co. Impressions stamp set , trimmed them out, and added them to the top of my layout, above the pocket.

I used some green Colorbox ink to change the color of my Expressions Whimsies alphas, and added them to the top.  I have to say, these alphas are some of my favorites to use in scrapbooking.  They are the perfect size, a great font, and you can easily change their color to match your scrapbook projects.  I wish I had more!

Finally, I added the word “wishes” with berry blue Expressions Glitter alphas and my project was finished.

Before I go I wanted to share one last little piece of ephemera that will go inside this pocket to join the rest of the wish lists:

One of the catalogs that Morgan went through for her wish list was an Oriental Trading catalog.  Once she was finished and came to share her ideas with me, I noticed these tree earrings.  I asked her if she wanted to get her ears pierced for Christmas.  She told me that she didn’t want the earrings for herself.  She said she was going to tell Santa that she wanted those earrings for Christmas, and after she got them, she was going to give them to me.

How sweet is that?!  A little devious, tricking the man from the North Pole, but sweet that she was thinking of me.  I’m not sure if she had a change of heart, and that’s why I found this little scrap detached from her list, but it’s something I’m going to keep for sure.  I’m going to mount it to cardstock, write down the story behind it, and tuck it away.  It might not look like much now, but it’s a piece of ephemera that tells a story and will be fun to look back on, years down the road.

Don’t be afraid to save your ephemera for your projects.  You have a life story to tell.
