Studio Tour Featuring Stacey Michaud

We have arrived at our last Studio Tour of the year.  Hopefully we can continue to bring you peeks into the creative spaces of our 2011 team but I can tell you that most of them HATE this feature of our blog.  Most of them are a little bit shy about showing off their spaces.  I for one never grow tired of seeing where other people spend their time crafting and scrapping!  Stacey Michaud’s space is no exception.  Every time I see one of those Ikea shelves I wish I had one for myself!

So let’s get to know more about Stacey and take a peek into her newly organized and freshly moved into room!

About Stacey’s Space:

Up until September, my space was under renovation with one of the walls removed and the plumbing exposed.  I was literally scrapping out of boxes.  We are finally settled and I am in the process of decorating.

My space also serves as the office in the house.  The kids do homework and crafts at the desk.  It is big enough for more than one person to be working at a time.

I house my supplies using the large open shelf as well as the scrapbooking cubes.  Each of the sturdy boxes from Ikea holds a different type of supply like bling or adhesive.  I have sorted my embellishments by color and each color goes into a small green box.

I store most of my Pink Paislee goodies in the white cubes, being sure to save drawers for my kid’s art supplies and small games.

Papers are sorted by collection (I have every collection ever made!) and My Pink Paislee alphabets and Artisan Elements go into a drawer.  To stay organized, I use large, 2 gallon Ziploc bags to hold the embellishments to match a given collection.  When I want to scrap, I grab the coordinating papers and then the bag with the goodies.  It makes it easy and efficient.

Since it is a family space and is off of my kitchen, it needs to be neat and attractive.  I use little jars for my buttons and lots of baskets to hold pens and mists.

Getting To Know Stacey:

Scrapbook Style – I always have the hardest time with this question as my style shifts according to the products and themes I am working with.  I love to hand cut patterns and images from paper and create something inventive.  My pages typically have more than one photo, dimension and handwritten journaling.  Most of my lines are linear with a bit of a twist.

Inspiration –  My biggest inspiration comes from the products I am working with.  Rub-on phrase, journaling spots or sticker sheets trigger ideas.  Every idea turns into a story and I draw inspiration from finding the best way to share that tale.  I tend to stick with a theme when choosing all of my other materials.

Favorite Product – I couldn’t live without patterned paper.  Truly, you can create borders, flowers, and embellishment using a single sheet of paper.  I also adore journaling spots, although I rarely write on them.  They make great mats for photos.  Every project feels finished with a piece of ribbon or twine!

One Wish- I wish I didn’t worry as much as I do.  It makes me uptight and when I am in an anxious stint, I have no patience.

Favorite Movie – Ghost.  I think I am a romantic at heart.

Guilty Pleasure – Reality TV.  I record shows like America’s Next Top Model, Project Runway and Top Chef.

Favorite Memory – I was married outside on the grounds of a historic barn.  The second I walked out of the barn doors and saw Steve at the end of the aisle, everything was quiet and clear.  It was a powerful moment.  That moment in time resulted in all of my other beautiful gifts in life, including our two amazing children!

One Fear – I have the most irrational fear of heights. The back of my knees start to tingle and go numb when I am up on the top of my kid’s playscape fort. I won’t be skydiving at time soon.

First Job – I was the donut-finisher at Dunkin’ Donuts.  I woke up for the 5:00 a.m. shift to frost and fill the donuts.

Music – I love music that is moody and moves me in some direction.  Alternative rock is my favorite.

Typical Day – The alarm goes off at 5:30 and the mad rush begins.  I get myself and the kids ready for school and work.  My husband leaves by 7:00 a.m. so I am on my own. After two drop-offs, I start teaching at 8:15 and go, go, go all day until 3:30.  Errands take place after school, but I try to be home by 4:30 so I can enjoy some family time.  I make dinner most nights using easy, but tasty recipes.  We eat dinner as a family at our dining room table and catch up for the day.  We get the kids ready for bed and end the night with stories and cuddles.  Then the scrapping begins and goes from 8:30-midnight.  I don’t get that much sleep, although I think I need it to maintain that pace.

Signature Piece of Clothing –My denim jacket.  It goes with everything!

Stacey……I think your wedding sounds amazing!  I can see why it is one of your favorite memories.  Thank you for sharing your space with us this week…and good luck designing for the Teresa Collins team next year!  You deserve it!!!
