One of the techniques that I learned recently has got me hooked to making spiral paper flowers and I’ve been making tons of them! It may not be the latest technique in town but I still love it because it adds dimension to my projects and at the same time, making them look good.
Let me bring you closely to a very easy step-by-step process on how to make the spiral paper flower.
Step 1 ~ This is a great time to whip out your 6 x 6 paper pad to start off the spiral flower paper making. I am so grateful that Pink Paislee make them because it really comes in handy!
Depending on the size of the flowers that you want, you could just use the ready made 6 x 6 paper to make a relatively decent size of 2.5″ in diameter. I chose to trim a little bit off and worked on 5 x 5 and 4 x 4, which gives me 1 3/4″ and 1 1/2″ diameters.
Step 2 ~ Cut the paper into spiral with a width of about 1/2″. The width actually determines the height of the paper flower. I try not to cut more than 1/2″ or else it would pops up too high and I can’t store my layout in the album. For other projects meant to be displayed, width of more than 1/2″ works fine.
Step3 ~ Just remember that the side of the paper that is facing up is the color/design that your flower is going to look like. If you’re using double sided patterned papers, either side works well. Then, start twirling the paper from the end of the spiral. I used freehand to twirl the paper and you could even use a twizzer to help you twirl the paper easily. Using hand will allow you better control of the twirling so the paper don’t slip off.
Step 4 ~ Twirl the paper until you reach the petal (make sure it’s a decent size so that you have enough space to glue down the paper) at the bottom of the spiral and start releasing your grip on the twirled paper.
Step 5 ~ Apply glue on the petal to anchor the bottom and this will help keep the twirled paper together.
Step 6 ~ Lastly, I sand the edges of the paper to give it a finishing touch. You could even ink the sanded edges to give it a distressed look.
And voila! Here’s how the spiral paper flowers look like on my layout.
I used all the materials from the 365 Degrees collection ~ Dream Big, Be Free, Think Big and Believe (papers), 6 x 6 paper pad, Flip Note Journal, Punch Out Die Cut Tags and Bella Brads. I used Expression Glitter Alpha “Licorice” for the title.
I hope you had fun with me and thank you so much for popping by again!
Have a great week!

Maybe I haven’t been paying attention, but I didn’t notice anyone else sanding the edges. Makes all the difference-now I actually like these flowers!
