Sundays Sketches – inspiration for an entire album!

Hello everyone!

Karola here and today we have a Sunday Sketch theme, so I have a sketch for you! No, no one sketch… I have a whole album of sketches!

Some time ago I decided to  create a mini album with photos of Rose, who spent a fantastic time during our little trip to the Santok, full of beautiful nature, she floated on the boat, she tried to go fishing and played with dog.  These wonderful pictures perfectly fit the Starlight collection and collection to fit into the album from Artisan line – I chose the album 6 x 6 Blue.

I thought that sometimes the pictures do not require extensive, rich decoration, so I created very easy, quick and simple album and during the creation of thought that it would always have some wonderful sketches that would help in the creation of individual pages. So I decided to make such sketches for you – I hope you find it useful, especially for those, who have a problem with creating a layout for each page in the album. I hope that the whole album can be an inspiration for beginners, but not limited to – sometimes we don’t have too much time and really want to have an album here and now, or create a simple gift for someone from family or friends. In this type of album, use only one collection – I’ve used a few sheets from Starlight collection and Starlight element stickers and alphabet stickers. I added also Expressions Weathered Wood – Denim on the cover.

Thus, the album is quick, simple but also inexpensive, because we don’t need a lot of embellies.

Thank you so much for stopping by to Pink Paislee blog today and wish you a wonderful, inspiring Sunday!

Take Five Friday {five products on 1 layout}

It’s my first time doing a “Take Five Friday”-post, and I have to admit – I thought that it would be difficult picking five products, as I thought I was a “less is more”-scrapper.

Well, I ended up having to cheat (*gasp*) just a tiiiny little bit in order to add all the things I wanted to use for my layout….

I’m very pleased with how this layout turned out. I started w/doing what I feel’s a “repeating” design in my works (clustered photos, clustered embellishments), and thought – “no- I so need to shake this up” – and ended up with this design.

My five Pink Paislee-products:

That’s four…..and then I bundled all the stickybackitems together, as in:

Other products used includes chipboard and metallic red mist from Maya Road, Gold glimmer mist from Tattered Angels and gems from KaiserCraft.

These cool flowers is a wonderful way to get rid of long pieces of scraps :) Create these next time you have a long strip of paper, and save them for a card or layout :)

Love this tape adding extra dimension to the layout :)

The layout is about our (recent) National Day (May 17th) by the way :)

Hope you don’t mind me cheating w/the product#! =)

Have a lovely weekend :)

Thursday’s Trend: Handmade Gifts

It seems like more and more of us scrapbookers are always looking for nice gifts that we can make with our growing stash of scrapbooking supplies. So today I’ve come up with a little box of cards to give someone as a gift…maybe for a teacher to say thank you (filled with thank you cards that they can give at the end of the year?) My mom and my mother-in-law are always asking for handmade cards from me that they can give to friends and family, so a couple of times a year, I like to put a little box of cards together for them. Or if you have a scrapbooking friend who likes to make cards, you can fill it with some yummy Pink Paislee supplies-brads, Artisan tape, cork buttons- like I did here, and they can put their own cards together! All it takes is a few pieces of paper to create the actual box!

For the base of the box, you will cut a piece of paper 8″ x 8″. Score in 1 and 1/2″ on each side. Fold on the scored lines (arrows). Cut on the dotted lines. Fold the 4 corner flaps in. Adhere the 4 corners to the inside.

The box top is very similar. You will cut the patterned paper 8″ x 8″ again. However, when scoring, score 1 and 1/8″ in from each side instead of 1 and 1/2″. Fold on the scored lines. Cut on the dotted lines. Adhere it together just like you did with the box bottom. If you want to punch a design on the bottom edges of the box top, do so before you adhere the sides together. I punched a scallop in mine.

You can leave the inside open to hold larger cards. Or you can create little dividers to hold gifts and little trinkets on the side. To create the dividers inside:

1. Large horizontal divider: cut a piece of patterned paper 5 1/4″ x 7″ long. Score at 3 1/2″, 4 1/2″ and 5 1/2″. Fold so that the middle score is up and the other 2 scores are down. Adhere. Set inside box.

2. Small vertical divider: cut a piece of patterned paper 7 1/4″ x 1 3/4″. Score at 2 1/2″, 3 1/2″ and 4 1/2″. Fold the same way as the first one with the center score up to create the divider. Adhere and set inside box.

I used a mix of the Queen Bee line here, along with some Artisan Tape and Artisan Swirls and the Expressions Ambrose Alphabet. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Word It Wednesday

What inspires you first? Is it the paper you are working with, a sketch, a title or the photograph? Do you always include a story with your layouts through the use of journaling?

My inspiration changes from layout to layout but is usually has something to do with the photograph. I took many pictures during a recent weekend trip home and discovered a few that showed my dad. He had just had open heart surgery one week prior to this family gathering and we were so relieved that everything went so well. I noticed that he was sitting behind my son just watching him with so much love and adoration, probably appreciative to be alive and have the chance. I think he has looked at me the same way a million times in my life so I was really moved.

I began thinking about how he has always watched over my mom, my sisters and me. He served as a soldier and protected his country with honor. Our protector and really, my hero. I quickly realized that a layout was born and the Starlight collection would be the perfect choice of paper and embellishments. For this layout, my title came last. I was going to use “Watching over us”, but the length didn’t work. When designing, I left plenty of room for the journaling since that truly is the most important part of this project.

I adore ledger paper and knew it would be perfect as a background and a journaling spot. I hand cut one of the circles from the Starlight Shooting Star paper and then cut it in half. Place one at the top of the photo mat and one at the bottom to draw the eye in! A few Element Stickers and my title featuring the 365 Degree cork buttons and it is done!
