Get To Know French Designer Gaelle Fauglas

Hi!  My name is Gaëlle Fauglas.  I am 29 years old and I live in France, Britanny, with my husband and our two beloved daughters Alice and Léane, who are 5 and 4 years old.  I discovered scrapbooking just after my second daughter was born in 2006.  From that day forward, I never stopped thinking about scrapbooking! My style is colorful and freestyle. I love mixing girly style with mixed media techniques. I create 12×12 layouts mainly and I am addicted to making mini books.  My work has been published in several french scrapbook magazines and books, and in august 2008, I was lucky to be chosen for the “Histoires de Pages” magazine design team. I also stay busy teaching workshops all over France and Belgium.

Pink Paislee has been one of my favorite brands from their very first collection, and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play with the new products.

Tuesday Tips & Techniques: 3D Star Embellishment

I love this time of year . . . the summer picnics on a brightly colored, patchwork quilt, the parades and patriotism, the warm weather and get-togethers with friends and family. The inspiration for my page today came from all three of these things.

First, I wanted to create the look of a patchwork quilt on my background. I cut a series of hexagon shapes out of several Pink Paislee patterned papers on my Cricut Expression.

I arranged them on my page to find a combination that was pleasing to the eye, and then before adhering them down, I stitched around the edges.

Next, I wanted to add some sort of star embellishment to my page. In my son’s room he has three barnwood 3-dimensional stars. I loved the look of the worn black finish and wanted to duplicate that on my page.  The Honeycomb paper from the Queen Bee Collection was the perfect choice. I cut out two 2.5″ stars, one 3.5″ star, and one 4.5″ star.

Now it’s time to make the star 3-dimensional . . . you will be surprised at how simple this is! All you need to do is score the star from each tip to the opposite indent of the star, like this.

Continue around the star, scoring each tip until you have done all of them.

Next, pinch and fold each star tip, as shown.

The result is a beautiful, 3-dimensional star accent.

Adhere a few foam dots together, add them to the underside of your star, and you are ready to adhere it to your page.

Here is the final project with a few detail shots.

Patterned Papers: Cream Ledger & Red Star (Shine - Starlight Collection), Black Solid (Honeycomb - Queen Bee Collection), Red Solid (Postcards – Amber Road), Black Houndstooth (Front Porch - Bayberry Cottage Collection), Stripe and Blue Ledger  (Santa’s Workshop - Mistletoe & Co. Collection), Starburst and Dark Red Ledger (Glow - Starlight Collection),  Blue Polka Dot (Gazebo – Bayberry Cottage Collection), Blue Floral Pattern (Daydream – 365 Degrees Collection), Red Polka Dot (Naughty or Nice – Mistletoe & Co. Collection), Blue Houndstooth (Trellis – Bayberry Cottage Collection), Black Floral Paper (Flower Garden – Bayberry Cottage Collection). Alphabet: Artisan Elements – Alphabets.

Thanks for coming by today! I hope you are enjoying your family this summer!

Monochromatic Monday: Soothing Blues

Happy Monday everyone!  For this post, I knew I wanted to play with blues.  Having recently moved, I plan to use blueish-grays in a couple of my rooms.  I love how serene and soothing it feels.

The most important step when working with a monochromatic color scheme is to decide which color you are featuring.  No-brainer right?  After that though, determining the shades and tones is essential. For example, if you make navy the predominant color, then you project may take on a more masculine feel.  By using the lighter tones, you can elicit thoughts of water and the beach.

I wanted my cards to be airy so I went with the light blues within the 365 Degree collection.  I threw in some Starlight navy along the way.

Simply layer Flip-notes and Punch-out Die-cut Tags to create the card.  Add-in some Pink Paislee chipboard from the Winsome collection (I don’t know about you, but I hoarded lots of it!) and a Bella Brad.  Done!

For the next card, I created a handmade flower to add some dimension.

To make the flower, cut strips of patterned paper, ink the edges and loop over, adhering only the ends. Add a cork button and Bella Brad to the center. For more texture and a hint of color, create grass by cutting small slits in a strip of paper and folding over at random lengths.  Notice the chipboard again?  Don’t be afraid to cut a piece up to get more than one use out of it!

One thing I have noticed about all the Pink Paislee collections is how well-coordinated they are! Grab both new and old and experiment with monochromatic today!

Studio Tour Featuring Lynn Ghahary

Lynn recently joined our design team as one of our Live Pink magazine contributors and we feel so very blessed to have her joining our team!  She was featured as a guest artist last February and we instantly fell in love with her style.  You will be able to see more of Lynn’s designs in our upcoming issue due out in July.  Let’s take a look at where Lynn creates her projects and learn a little bit more about what makes her tick.

Scrapbook Style – clean with bits of flair and lots of details

Inspiration – anything and everything! I’m especially drawn to anything with unique color combinations and lots of texture.

Favorite Product – definitely my punches – I have A LOT of them!

One Wish - more time with my Dad so that he could meet my boys (he passed before they were born)

Favorite Movie – Pretty Woman!

Guilty Pleasure – Tagalong cookies (I order boxes and boxes of them when the Girl Scouts start ringing my doorbell to last me throughout the year)

Favorite Memory – this is a hard one as I have so many of them!  probably the moment each one of my boys was born and I held them for the first time

One Fear – I hate to sound morbid but my biggest fear is losing someone close to me such as my husband or my boys.  having to endure my father’s death was hard enough I’m not quite sure how I would survive losing one of them.

First Job – I worked in a type of “everything” store called R.J. Mars in the baby department and would spend hours making sure all the hangers were evenly spaced on the racks (exciting huh?)

Music – I listen to Pandora when I’m in my studio and have a few different stations set up – my favs are Lady Gaga and the Black Eyed Peas

Typical Day – wake up early (around 6am) with the boys and our new puppy Buddy.  get everyone dressed, fed, teeth brushed, lunches made and either on the bus or driven to school.  work in my studio or run errands til lunchtime when I pick up the boys from school.  spend time doing homework, playdates, tball or soccer practices, or just hanging out around the house with the puppy.  dinnertime is usually just the boys and I since my husband works in NYC and doesn’t get home until later in the evening.  once my husband is home we all hang out some more playing board games, watching movies or playing family wii.  bedtime for the boys is usually 8pm and then my husband and i usually catch up a bit and then it’s back to my studio for more creative time or watching some of my favorite guilty pleasure reality tv shows on bravo.  of course summer vacation will change things up a bit but this is our typical day when school is in session.

Signature Piece of Clothing – my Fossil jeans – they are the only brand I wear since they fit me the best!

Thursday Trends: Banner Ribbons

Actually, I am not quite sure what you would call these – whether they have their own specific name. They seem to be especially popular with the shabby chic-crowd, and I’ve noticed how our own Karola often use this little detail in her amazing works :)

So. I hereby present to you todays find when it comes to trends: Banner ribbons! :)

This is a CD card which contained a CD with some wedding pictures. I needed it to look somewhat elegant.

See the banner-ribbon that has the reciepents’ names on it? I especially like how the snipped ends make the whole detail.

This red sheet of patterned paper is quickly becoming one of my fave-diecut.

Dimension, lovely dimension! :)

Just wanted to show what the inside looked like :)

Materials used:
365 degrees
Expressions whimsies alphabet
Bella Brads
Other: Tattered Angels – chipboard and glimmermist, Prima flowers, ink

I also made a generic card, using the Starlight-collection and rub-ons and cork buttons from 365 degrees.

Oh, and the ribbon banner here is made outta this Artistan Tape. Flower made of vintage sewing pattern.

Cute trend, eh? :)

Thanks for looking :)
