I love this time of year . . . the summer picnics on a brightly colored, patchwork quilt, the parades and patriotism, the warm weather and get-togethers with friends and family. The inspiration for my page today came from all three of these things.
First, I wanted to create the look of a patchwork quilt on my background. I cut a series of hexagon shapes out of several Pink Paislee patterned papers on my Cricut Expression.
I arranged them on my page to find a combination that was pleasing to the eye, and then before adhering them down, I stitched around the edges.
Next, I wanted to add some sort of star embellishment to my page. In my son’s room he has three barnwood 3-dimensional stars. I loved the look of the worn black finish and wanted to duplicate that on my page. The Honeycomb paper from the Queen Bee Collection was the perfect choice. I cut out two 2.5″ stars, one 3.5″ star, and one 4.5″ star.
Now it’s time to make the star 3-dimensional . . . you will be surprised at how simple this is! All you need to do is score the star from each tip to the opposite indent of the star, like this.
Continue around the star, scoring each tip until you have done all of them.
Next, pinch and fold each star tip, as shown.
The result is a beautiful, 3-dimensional star accent.
Adhere a few foam dots together, add them to the underside of your star, and you are ready to adhere it to your page.
Here is the final project with a few detail shots.
