She Art Mixed Media Canvas and TWO Giveaways!

Hi everyone!

I’m here to share a mixed media piece with you this week. I am a huge mixed media fan and when I see a new class I can’t resist signing up, especially when it sounds as amazing as Christy Tomlinson’s She Art Workshop. I just finished the course and it was one of the best I’ve ever taken (which says a lot since I have taken quite a few of them.)

I’ve created a few “she art” pieces during Christy’s class and I wanted to share them with you. Since I wasn’t very sure if I would do a good job, I did my very first girl in my art journal (I write text on the left side which is why it’s empty.):

Now that I’d practiced a bit, I was ready to move to another piece. This time, I tried to create a whole scene and had a lot of fun with my girl:

As you can see, except for some generic stamps and rubons, both pieces only use Pink Paislee products. The bright colors and shapes in our papers make them perfect for mixed media pieces.  On this canvas I mixed papers from the Hometown Summer, Daily Junque and Soiree collections.

Because SHE IS amazing; Christy has offered to give away not one but TWO seats to our Pink Paislee blog readers. She is giving away one seat in She Art Workshop (starts April 11) and one seat in her brand new She Had Three Hearts Workshop (starts May 23). Christy is an amazing teacher; these workshops have detailed videos that go through her process step by step and I have already signed up for her second class. I cannot recommend them enough.

To be eligible for the giveaways, leave a comment on this blog post and we’ll announce the winners on April 7th.

And, if you’ve been using Pink Paislee products in your mixed media projects, we’d love to see those, too!

Pink Paislee Is Going On Tour

If you missed our Facebook and Twitter announcements a few weeks back we want to make sure you hear our latest “travel” news!

We are going on tour. Now the phrase “going on tour” would probably indicate that there will be several stops along the way but the truth is we have to survive the first leg of the trip to determine where we will go next.  :-)

We are joining Prima Marketing & Tattered Angels to host an event called the “Color Connections Creative Tour.”  The first stop on the tour is going to be May 20th – May 21st in Riverside, California.  The Mission Inn Hotel & Spa is amazing and will be the perfect backdrop for two days of inspiration and education.

During this event we will be teaching 2 different classes and Prima and Tattered Angels will also be teaching 2 classes each so if you want to attend the event you will walk away with 6 class projects! And these are BIG projects.  Each class is over 2 hours in length and the value of product in each class kit will blow your mind!  In each class you will experience a fusion of products from each manufacturer as we show you ways to create a Color Connection using our products!

We have set up an event website that you can visit to learn more! So stop over there to get more details!

I can tell you that there have been many conference calls and emails between our three companies about this tour and collectively as a group we are not sure which location we will head to next!  So if this event sounds totally amazing (and we think it does…) then you will want to jump in with both feet because…..other “tour” locations are not yet scheduled and we don’t want you to miss this unique event!

Early Bird Registration ends after 4/15/11 so VISIT THE WEBSITE now to register.  Seats are limited!

Four Photos? Yes!

Hi everyone! Karola here and I have something “detailed” today to share.
Today’s post will be about the multi – photos arrangement, which is quite difficult for me. We all love challenges, so I try from time to time to take the next challenge. Arranging and composing more than one or two photos for me is really hard! I never know if the Lo sheet did not already piston, if I can add something more, and frankly I admire all multi-photos scrapers, particularly those that create a lot of double-pagers. I am trying, however, from time to time to enable a larger number of photos to my work, to which I strongly encourage you too!
Arrange the four photos – what a challenge! I chose four photos of my daughter Rose, showing her different moods to create Lo about how important is a celebration of everyday, ordinary things of pleasure, emotions and moods. Daily Junque collection is so perfect for it!
I decided to use almost all elements from the Daily Junque – Tickets and Daily Junque – Junque papers which can easily cut, and I create a lot of great labels.  See how easy it’s to work with this collection – just a one or two papers and we can get a lot of embellish!
The vertical photo arrangement is good when we have small pictures, I putting around them a lot of small details cut from paper. To emphasize the vertical arrangement of photos, I created a parallel composition with decorative strips of paper cut out with edge punches and also a tearing paper piece. These “pockets” are great to hide a few items, and even the hidden journaling!

I hope I was able to encourage all those who have a doubts the creation pages with  more than one or two photos, I must admit that I feel better with it now!

Stash It: Creating egg wraps

Hello! This is Danielle, and I’m here today to show you some little Spring “egg wraps” that I made with several of the Pink Paislee lines combined together! These are so easy to make. If you don’t celebrate Easter, you could use this as a Spring centerpiece as well.

To make these egg wraps, I cut a few of the House of 3 – Daily Junque papers (Numbers and Map) 6 ” x 1.5″ for the bases to hold the eggs. Just wrap them around and adhere the 2 ends of the paper strip together in the back. At the top of the bases, I wrapped some of the Artisan Elements around the paper. The Artisan Elements are adhesive, so they stick right to the paper.

The eggs are simply decorated with Soiree twine and the Clear Pops Stickers (butterflies) from the Butterfly Garden line! I used the Sweetness journaling stickers to set them on and a bit of Spanish moss from the craft store to tuck around the bases. Everything is set on a white cake plate.

I am in the mood for Spring and can’t wait for it to arrive here in New York.

Thank you for stopping by the Pink Paislee blog today!

Today’s Tutorial – Creating your own Embellishments

Hello!  Today on the blog, we have Today’s Tutorial.  I love to add embellishments to my projects for color, texture, and visual interest.  Sometimes I have a clear vision of how I want my project to look, but I don’t always have a pre-made embellishment to go with that vision.  So, I thought I would show you my process of how I decide on what kind of embellishments to use, and how I use what I have on hand to make my own.

First off, I decided on a photo I want to use on my layout.  I loved this picture of my family flying kites.  It had a cool angle and perspective, and the blue sky background was so beautiful.   I went with a very large photo for my layout, because the images that I wanted to focus on were small.  The larger the photo, the better it was to see my family and the kites.

Because the photo I decided to use was about kite flying, I knew right away that I wanted to use some sort of kite embellishment on my page.  Unfortunately I didn’t have anything like that, so I decided to make my own.  I had taken some close-up shots of the kites we were flying, so I wanted to use one of those shapes.

The kite with the flames had and easier shape so replicate, but I loved the tail of the other.  So I thought I would combine the two.

So I got my basic design set up, and left space where I want my kite embellishment to be.  I then measured the area, leaving a little room for space on each side.  So now I knew how large the kite should be.

I cut out a kite shape from patterned paper and added a crease down the center so that I could pop the sides up later to give the kite some dimension.  I found a dimensional sticker from the Soiree collection that I thought would work for my kite frame.   So I carefully pulled it apart.

I added the stickers to the kite and trimmed the excess.

Then I added some twine to the back for the tail.

I placed the kite , and then I was ready to finish the layout.  (Details are so important.  That’s what really makes your embellishment/project special.  Don’t forget them.)

Here is the finished project:

(Noticed, I covered up the fence that was in the photo with some more embellishments.)

Here is one more example of an embellishment I made to fit my project:

I did the same thing on this layout as I did for the kite layout.  I chose an easy hat shape to use for the base of my title .  See the purple hat in the photo on the left?  That was my guide.

Now I know you are not going to run out and make a kite for your next project, but maybe my little tutorial will show you that you don’t have to be limited to the pre-made embellishments you have on hand, or that you don’t have to go buy something new to finish your next project.  Use your photos as cues, and get crafty.  ;)

I hope that helps you out the next time you can’t find exactly what you are looking for.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
