Get To Know Guest Artist Amy Heller

Hi Pink Paislee Fans! My name is Amy Heller and I am SO thrilled to be here!! I’ve been an artist all my life. Drawing cartoon characters from a very young age, then becoming interested in paper crafting in middle school. I remember embellishing a report with all sorts of colorful designs cut from construction paper and glued on with a glue stick – I was mesmerized with paper.

Throughout high school I collected stationary, studied calligraphy, typography and graphic design. I loved boxed note cards and often dreamed of becoming a stationer. I knew with certainty I wanted to pursue design as a career, which I did. I studied art and design in college and worked as a graphic designer soon after graduating. I worked in the industry for 8 years before having my daughter and becoming mostly SAHM and freelance designer.

My design and creativity primarily took form on my computer. That was until 2004. We moved cross-country from Washington state to Connecticut for my husband to attend graduate school. At that point I became a full-time Mom and my freelance work was put on hold. At my husband’s school, I met a group of women that held a monthly scrapbooking group. I LOVED it instantly. The products were beautiful and this new hobby gave me the ability to document our growing family, while providing me with a much-needed creative outlet. However, it wasn’t until 2008, after my son was born, that scrapbooking became my true passion and obsession. Then in 2009 I discovered cardmaking and blogging. At that point it was all over, I was completely hooked and my design “office” officially became my craft room!

I’ve been fortunate to have been published in Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbook Trends, CARDS, and Scrapbook and Cards Today Magazines. I love experimenting with paper techniques and tend to have a fun, whimsical and colorful scrapping style. I love to layer, mix color and patterns and play with my title work and letterforms.

I live in a small town in Connecticut with my wonderful husband of 11 years, our daughter, 8, son, 5 and our super dog, Cody, 11.

I am absolutely thrilled to be here this month with Pink Paislee and hope you enjoy my work!

Thank you Amy for giving us the inspiration we needed to create these fun summer projects. With the 4th of July holiday right around the corner we can honestly say that you have “sparked” our creativity!

Bits and Pieces {Short Stories}

Hi everyone I always enjoy using all the different bits and pieces that Pink Paislee put together in their collections, there is no shortage of  all  things to make a layout fun.

Today I am showing you a layout that I created using the “Daily Junque Collection” using a tiny Passport Photo that I just love and wanted to document.  This was Chaise’s first ever Passport Photo, and I wanted to remember just how hard it was to get this photo.

Poor Chaise was not allowed to smile or laugh, and by the time we had finished I thought he was going to cry, I felt so very bad.  We must have taken a least 50 photos to finally end up with the end result – and here it is.

I created the Title by using the gorgeous “Expression Cushion Alphabets in Merinque” and “Old School Glitter Alpha Stickers, I placed my journaling to the left hand side of the layout so it followed the flow of the layout with the embellishments, it says “It was so hard for Chaise , as he was not allowed to smile” , I will never forget this.

Here are some close ups of the embellisments and photo.

I also kept the receipt for the photos which I rolled up and stuck to the top of the layout on the left hand side.

I also cut out bits and pieces of papers and chipboard embellishments to finish of the layout.

Other Materials Used:

Daily Junque “Junque Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “News Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “Tabs Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “Clear Stamps”

Thanks so much for popping by, and I hope you have fun creating with a photo that is a little different from usual.

Get Sketchy {Summer}

It’s sketch time!  I love sketches!  Here is this month’s Page Maps sketch.

And here is my take.

Because of the back lighting in the photo, no two photos looked similar, so I used the same photo.  In photoshop I flipped the same image and printed them out.  Just a fun take on using photos.

I had so much fun with this sketch.  I hope you give it a try as well.  I would love to see what you create so be sure to link back to this post and upload it to the Pink Paislee Gallery.

Designer Details

Hello everyone! Karola here with some designer details to share :)

Quite a long time I thought about what I can show you as my favorite details or the techniques associated with the details, because in all my projects are usually lots of them! I decided to show you how you can customize the Pink Paislee products to your needs and how with a little effort you can create rich in details page.

Here is my LO “Celebrate Life ” created using mainly Soiree collection, on the photo: me and my daughter Rose – when I was young (ha ha) and when she was so tiny, a 6 years ago – this is one of my fav photos from these times :)

It is widely known that I love all kinds of layers – here too I created several. I created layers using Soiree – Mini Notes & Labels . Because the party theme did not fit into my photo, some subtitles and elements is hidding, layering technique well suited to this. For example – two stickers in the circle shape –  I needed only a few circles in the blue color (without subtitles):

Another way to add interesting detail is cut out frames from diecuts cards. Such a frame perfectly matched to my photo.

Sometimes we need to hide our precious stuff, journaling and memorabilia – there is nothing more perfect than the clear cards, I used one from Sweetness collection, I just sewed it using a sewing machine. In the pocket I put a few colored cards Soiree – Mini Notes & Labels – the first: may be an additional decoration on our page, and second – you can write something on them.

Let’s return to the layers – I just love, when it is a lot of them, and you? With a small paper embellies  such as Soiree – Flags or Soiree – Dimensional Stickers you can create many beautiful, colorful layers. Some of them you can stick with 3d foam. Do you already have used Pink Paislee wooden shapes? If not – I strongly encourage! It’s one of those details that we can freely customize to your needs! I colored mine on blue and green using dabber paint and stick it with a small 3d cubes – that was another and last layer.

I hope that this amount of details encourage you to their own tests and experiments. Devil is in the details, right?! Thank you for your attention and invite you to visit the Pink Paislee blog every day!

Mistables Project Reveal

There are so many amazing Mistables projects swirling around my in box from our design team.  They really “did it” again by designing amazing projects that have my head spinning.  One of the comments we are getting over and over again about our Mistables Collection is this “It is so colorful..OR “I just love how we get to customize it to match our own projects.”

And YES…that is the goal.

These products might appear plain and boring but the truth is they are the most flexible and versatile products out there. And….even if you don’t like to add color these products they are still fabulous in the “bare naked” state.

Let’s see a few project reveals from the team and really start to “disect” these products.

This is Family 3 by:  Nancy Damiano

On this project Nancy used our Mistables Paper Pack, Muslin Flowers, Muslin Scallop Ribbons and our Resist Chipboard Alphas.  She primarily used 3 misting colors and without much effort created a stunning color palette that includes lots of soft textures and dimension.  She DID NOT use a mask on this paper.  It has the resist (white areas) pattern built in to the paper so it magically appears when inks or misting sprays are added.  Super easy to use too!

Choose Joy by: Karen Grunberg

On this project Karen also used the Mistables Paper Pack, The Muslin Scallop Ribbons, Chipboard Alphabet and the resist Journal Tags.  As you can see when you compare these 2 layouts side by side….NO TWO ARE ALIKE.  Even though these designers started with the same basic materials in the end they were able to make it unique to their own style.

Karen ended up chosing a bold color palette and then she decided to stamp directly over her muslin strips to add even more collage “effects.” She also decided to slightly color the edges of her papers instead of adding color to the entire sheet which provides just a hint of what the resist pattern is on top.

So…we hope you enjoy this project reveal.  We will be back on Saturday with more side by side comparisons to show you!
