Do you ever sit down to scrapbook and you are stumped at where to start? I always begin my next project with a plan. Today, I wanted to share with you three key designing tips that I remember when drawing a sketch for my next layout.
1. Focus On Your Photographs
I always pick photos that help me tell the story that I want to share. In this case, I only had the two photos and one was horizontal and the other vertical. Don’t let that stop you from adding that special photo to your page. Changing the sizes of your photos can help. For this page I used a 4×6 and two wallets.
2. Stick To Three Colors Or Less
Once I have picked my photos, I then pick the paper I am going to use to match. I loved that Prairie Hill’s paper matches my son’s hair. So, I picked orange, blue, and yellow for this page.
3. Use the Rule of Thirds
Keep your design cohesive with the rule of thirds. When I add my embellishments, even if they are layered, I typically use this philosophy. I use my focal point (in this layout, it is the main 4×6 photo) and add three places on the page to add my embellishments. In the photo below, I show you where those three areas are.
Next time you have “scrappers-block”, remember these three keys to design. It always helps me stay focused on what is important – telling my story!
