Hi Everyone! Crystal here to talk a bit about design today. I have often wondered what my scrap style is, and when I have asked people I often get told “clustery”. Many people have emailed me and asked me how I cluster and choose my element placements, so I thought I would talk about that a bit today.
If you didn’t know, Pink Paislee has started selling some products digitally which is what I started with for this page. You can find their digi goodies over at Jessica Sprague. For my page, I used the Family Matters collection. I just love it, and I knew it would work perfectly for the photo I planned on using.
They have some really great products that are so perfect for digi and hybrid use. Some of the products are based on Pink Paislee paper lines we already know and love but others are totally exclusive to digi. I just love them all!
Here is my page that I will be talking about today.
When I work on my pages and my little clusters the main thing for me is balance. I started by placing the “Memories” stamp on my background, so I immediately added one of those gorgeous patterned papers directly beside it to start my cluster. I like to use papers as embellishments. So I put another patterned paper square on top my stamp so that when I placed my photo, it wouldn’t be too heavy on the right side.
When it comes to embellishments, I don’t use tons, usually because I love to use papers like I said! When I start placing my elements, I work in 3′s and/or triangles. I placed my biggest butterfly on the right side first to balance it out, because the stamp and the plaid paper still felt a bit “heavy” to me. Then I added two more smaller ones to keep with my rule of 3′s. I think that the cluster has perfect balance, so I just added a simple banner and my journaling.
I hope you enjoyed my tips for you! Here is a little freebie for you as well. You will find a quickpage in both 12×12 which can easily be resized to 8×8, 6×6…etc and also one sized at 8.5×11. It will be in a flattened png format that you can just slip your photo into!
