Handmade Holidays: Paper Stockings

12DAYS_BLOGBANNER

This time of year is filled with beautiful wrapping.  Presents, tags, cards, and of course stockings! But they don’t just have to be for the mantle.  How cute would it be to give one of these paper stockings to a favorite co-worker, teacher, or loved one? It is lightweight and easily hung but has enough of a pocket to hold candy, small presents, or even a gift card.

PaperStocking_jess

The construction is very simple but you can really get creative with the embellishment and make each one personalized to the recipient.  I plan on stuffing this one with a few goodies and giving it as a holiday party hostess gift… it’s sure to bring a smile!

Adding ruffles with the Artisan Scallop Ribbon gives my paper stocking dimension, texture and looks like the fluffy edge of a regular stocking.

The gold foil deer in the Snow Village ephemera pack is one of my favorite pieces! It adds the perfect amount of holiday sparkle.

Stocking elements

Don’t forget..sometimes patterned papers include elements that can be hand cut for extra embellishments. The Snow Village poinsettia paper is one of my all time favorites for fussy cutting.

Rudolph of course, his shiny nose guides us with our creativity. Wonderful stocking. I made stockings from paper grocery sacks when my daughter was in first grade and then let the class decorate them with sequins and jewels and ribbon. They had so much fun and my daughter’s hangs on our tree each year.

    Did you know…
in 1939 Robert L. May crafted a poem about a taunted reindeer, set to the meter of “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (also known as “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”). He considered the names Rollo and Reginald before settling on Rudolph.

So not Rollo, not Reginald, he is RUDOLPH the red-nosed reindeer!

Love the stocking, I am definitely giving this project a try!
