I’m pretty sure that every single scrapbook layout I’ve ever created has a title on it! Text on a page immediately lets the reader in on what the layout is about, reinforces the theme of the layout as well as adding an extra, coordinated, decorative element. I’m always looking for new and interesting ways of arranging titles and one of my favorites is arranging it in a circular shape! Since Mother’s Day is this weekend, I wanted to finally create a layout about those sweet, homemade gifts that I received from my kids last year!
My style of scrapbooking is quite linear, as in I like things straight and lined up. Because of this, I usually try to include a few elements that are curved or circular to break it up a bit. Why not start with the title? Your eye easily follows the curved line of the title.
And by curving it around a photo it ensures that the photo, is indeed, still the star of the layout!
If you don’t trust yourself to get a perfect curve shape, you can always trace lightly around a small bowl or plate in pencil first to give you a circle to work with!
Here is a closer look at a couple of other details from my layout today:
And a couple of final tips for creating a circular title:
- A longer title works best. The longer your title, the larger your circle will be;
- Mix and match your fonts/letters for even more interest;
- It especially looks great with cursive letters that you can “join” together!
Thanks for popping by today and I hope I’ve inspired you to think outside the square when it comes to your titles! And I’m sure all the Moms out there will agree that gifts from the heart are the best kind!
