Do you ever have this dilemma? Too many photos for a layout or a pocket scrapbook spread, but not enough for a full bound mini album? Yeah…sometimes I get that. My solution to that today is a paper mini album. As inspired by a few of the ‘daybooks’ found out there, I wanted make a smallish mini using paper only and a sewn binding . Here’s what I came up with.
This album is all paper, no chipboard or even heavy cardstock. To help it stay closed, a paper slip was created and slides over the top of the mini. This was then embellished with elements from the Hello Sunshine collection.
To create this daybook inspired mini album, I gathered several pattern papers from Hello Sunshine and trimmed them to a variety of heights and widths and even different edges. The whole mini measures 4 1/2 x 6 1/2-inches. After I decided on the mix of pattern, I hand stitched them all together down the center for a binding.
When open flat the different layers and edges show through. Each page is sized different than the one before it.
This is the next page after the previous. A tag shape was created with the floral pattern allowing that grey pattern to show through and invite the reader to keep viewing.
Vellum was added to the mix as well. It adds great peek-a-boo effect and I personally love the see through aspect of the medium.
Several of the edges were left open and make great pockets for journal tags. This all paper book allows plenty of room for telling the story of this little family outing. Interactive pieces make a mini album extra interesting.
The embellishments were kept to a minimum. With this format of an album, there is not a whole lot of room for layers. Plus, for me it was all about the photos.
One of my favorite pages is this one…
An envelope was created from the cloud pattern paper and sewn into the middle. Yet another fun hiding space.
The rest of the book repeats the pattern of the other side of the pages. This is a real simple use of pattern paper and embellishments to document a not so little story in a special way.
