It’s Gail here and down in Australia, we don’t really celebrate Halloween. But, I knew I could still share inspiration for scrapping those Halloween photos as my kids LOVE to dress up in costumes and jump at any chance to get their faces painted!
Recently my three year old surprised me as he waited patiently in the line for his turn and then clearly requested dragon face painting. (Usually he just wants superheroes so this request came as a surprise to me!)
When starting this layout, I knew I wanted to add a touch of black and some interesting texture to the background to add to the boyish, dragon style of the layout. The texture I achieved in a couple of ways:
1. By adding a clear, glitter texture paste through a stencil for subtle texture,
2. Distressing all edges and adding a few spots of silver mist,
3. Creating a “scale” like feature on the layout by overlapping punched circles of patterned paper.
If you are familiar with my scrapbooking, you will know that this is way different to my usual style! But it worked for these photos! I was able to bring in a touch of black with a few embellishments and the title. I chose embellishments based on color from both the Switchboard and Hello Sunshine collections.
For my title, I was able to bring in a bit more black by cutting out part of the title in black cardstock (using my Cameo) and then printing my second word directly onto a 3×4 journaling card from the Switchboard collection. I just love the hashtag on this card!
I’m pleased with how the layout turned out and so’s my little dragon boy! I also hope I’ve given you a few ideas that you could incorporate into your Halloween layouts this year!
