As an avid tea drinker, especially in the cold weather months, I have always wanted to make my own homemade tea bags. With my sister’s birthday just around the corner, I thought she would love a homemade tea bag gift set created with the gorgeous Bella Rouge collection! The feminine color palette and floral accents make this collection perfect for a tea party! So grab your tea cups, ladies, and join me in today’s fun post!
You too can make a lovely tea bag gift set! First trim a piece of both the yellow/pink bow paper and the black grid paper to 5″ tall and 8 3/4″ wide. Score each piece 4″ from the left hand side and 4″ from the right hand side. About 3/4″ should be left in middle for the spine of the booklet. Adhere the black grid piece onto the bow patterned paper. I doubled the papers so that the booklet would be study.
Then, trim a piece of gray floral patterned paper to 2 1/2″ inches tall and 9 1/2″ wide. Trim a piece of yellow patterned paper 1/2″ tall and 9 1/2″ wide. Scallop one edge of yellow strip with a scalloped border punch and adhere to top of gray floral paper. Adhere thin black strip of patterned paper 9 1/2″ long to top of scallop. Score this entire piece in the middle to make a 3/4″ spine.
Adhere the spine of the gray floral portion to the middle of the booklet base. Machine stitch each end of the gray floral portion to the ends of the booklet, being sure to leave a “bubble” of extra space for the tea bags. Trim off excess edge. You will also need to either hand or machine stitch the bottom of each pocket closed.
Embellish the string ends of homemade tea bags with butterflies hand trimmed from patterned paper. Place tea bags in pockets and secure butterflies with repositionable adhesive. These little butterflies are just perfect, don’t you think?
Before you decorate the cover, adhere 2 small loops of black twine on the front and back covers to form the closure loops. (See the photo below) Secure the booklet closed with a gorgeous rose gold colored metal charm. Trim a piece of black and white striped patterned paper to 2″x5″. Score to make 3/4″ spine and adhere to outside edge of booklet. Back acrylic tag with white cardstock. Embellish cover with washi shape, acrylic tag wrapped in black twine, fun chipboard circle shapes, and pretty ephemera butterfly. Finish cover with puffy glitter stickers and ribbon bow.
And here’s instructions in case you want to make your very own tea bags as well! Start with a cone shaped coffee filter. Trim off a triangle from the right hand side and about an inch off of the top. Fill your modified filter (lower left hand corner of pic) with a teaspoon or so of loose tea.
Thanks for letting me share my latest DIY craft with you! I hope I have inspired you to craft your own tea bag gift set with the beautiful Bella Rouge collection! And if you do, please let me know, I will be right over with my tea cup! (wink, wink)
