Good morning everyone! I am so excited to tell you all that our move to Virginia was mostly successful. Aside from some broken/damaged furniture anyway. Since we got here there has been an amazing amount of rain. Just enough to keep the ground wet so the pretty trees and bulbs can bloom. After living in a desert for 18 years, this has been bliss. Rain is, to me, what others feel about sunshine so of course I had to take a photo of the rain drops and document it. I knew I wanted to keep this page fairly simple to keep the focus on the photo but I wanted to make sure I added some journaling. The main problem was that I don’t like my handwriting at all. Putting it on the page directly just wasn’t going to work for me. Cue the lightbulb going off in my brain…add a little flip book on the page! This way I had somewhere to write but it wouldn’t take away from the design.
The best part is that you cannot even tell it is there once the page is finished.
Step 1: Print a 4×6 photo…I like to have a little white edge on my photos but feel free to stay true to you and print all the way to the edge if you like. Next, cut out two pieces of paper to slightly smaller than the 4×6. I used papers from the Citrus Bliss 12×12 paper pad. I liked the subtle pattern on these. I also cut out two of the 3×4 cards from a coordinating cut apart sheet from the same paper pad. I had several doilies that were cut in half already and added them to the pile. I plan to use those to create the little “book”. You could use other paper strips but I like that the doilies are thinner and don’t make too much bulk on the final project.
Step 2: glue the doily to the photo like this and fold into a little mini accordion twice more. This creates the “shelf” for the next two pages. Add those pages on behind the photo, keeping them hidden when you close it up.
Step 3: Embellish the hidden papers with the other pieces of the doilies and some pretty elements.
You will be left with a little “mini book” that you can add to your 12×12 paper just like you would a regular photo. Just add some glue to the bottom paper in the book and press down to the paper. At this point I chose to add papers to the top and bottom of the 12×12 and embellished over to finish it up. After that, the journaling. You could add other photos to the extra papers or write more than I did. I love that this layout allowed me to be true to my style while adding something fun to the page.
