If you are like us, school has started or will soon be starting. It is so bittersweet; summer was wonderful & we loved being together, but it is time for the routine of school.
With my daughter going into the second grade, I found this design on Pinterest by Graphic Artist Ali Gray that inspired my layout design.
I loved how she split the 100. This is where I started my design. Using Silhouette Studio, I typed “2nd” in font Arial Black, then stretched it to 13.088″x6.653″. Then marked with my ruler where to make the cut.
Inspired by the rest of the design, I added text and embellishments at the bottom in a grid. I used my ruler again to help mark off where I would type the journaling with my typewriter.
As soon as I cut out the ‘2nd’ I was inspired by the rhyme my daughter learned in first year. So using the Silhouette again I carefully squeezed in “1st is the worst, 2nd is the best, 3rd is the one with the hairy chest”. I decided to turn the ‘is the’ to go with all three sayings since that is repeated with each one. I used the font Arial Narrow and changed the font sizes from 36,” 48,” and 72.” I backed these with one color of pattern paper since my “2nd” was multi-colored.
Not only was my daughter going into a new grade, but into a new school. I wanted to journal about that morning with the crying and the holding on, but I wanted the overall layout to be fun and positive.
I added a lot of straight stitches to create texture and give direction. Along the straight stitches I created on the photo frame, I added stickers, diecuts, and washi tape from the Memorandum collection.
To reinforce the theme and that first back to school photo, I used one of the camera clips to slip through the frame.
The last thing I added was some black mist drops.
Thank you so much for joining me today!
