Mixed Media: Painted Cards

I love to get painty-messy. I’m not very good with a brush, but that doesn’t stop me from playing with paint now and again. I created this trio of cards recently when I got the urge to pull out my acrylics:

My favorite color in the C’est La Vie collection is that gorgeous deep teal. I combined blue and green acrylic paint until I had a match. I could have started painting right then and there, but I decided to add some texture. I mixed matte gel medium into my paint and applied it to my card bases in long, generous strokes.

When dry, the brush strokes and places where I was heavy-handed with the paint were still raised. I love the dimension this treatment adds!

Be sure to use a heavy cardstock, the weight of the paint with the gel medium will warp typical cardstock.

I also splashed a little bit of black ink on the cards for some more mixed media fun.

If you are a little nervous about mixed media techniques, I encourage you to experiment on cards. Their small size is less intimidating. And no matter how your paint turns out, layers of pretty C’est La Vie patterned papers will make it all pretty. Happy creating!
