Hey everyone, it’s Raquel here and this week the 2017 design team is having a little ‘Artist in the Spotlight’ moment on the Pink Paislee blog. I am so very grateful and feel blessed to be on this amazing team for coming into the 3rd year now, so those who frequent the blog regularly would have most likely seen me around. However, if you are new here, here is a little bit about me:
My name is Raquel and I am a 32 year old Australian primary school teacher, Mummy to two kiddies (Jack, 2 & Charlotte, 4) and wife to Clint. I admit I am pretty obsessed with scrapbooking and love nothing more than playing with a variety of papers and embellishments and making pretty stuff. I love spending time with my family, sharing coffee (or wine) with friends, having creative time and all things social media! I have been scrapping for around thirteen years now and feel I have finally ‘found’ my style. I’m a lover of layers, cut files and clusters and enjoy adding little details while still maintaining white space, balance and a cleanliness to my layouts.
Today I am sharing a layout with you that in a summary incorporates some of my favourite techniques and design ideas when scrapbooking. To create this layout today I used the new and totally amazing ‘Oh my Heart’ collection.
Here is my Spotlight layout for you today:
The subject of my layout is my little girl on her third birthday. She is now four, but is a regular feature on my pages as well as her brother. There are always so many stories to document.
When creating pages it is not unusual to see white cardstock as my base. I love the crisp and clean look it gives to my pages. I must admit I am also drawn to more softer colour palettes where I will then add pops of brighter colours through the use of embellishments. This is evident on this layout where I have used the soft pink patterned paper to ground my layout and incorporated pops of colour within the clusters and die cut flowers.
I also absolutely adore layering and get a little thrill when I am able to layer and combine embellishments into clusters – sometimes embellishments seem like they were just made to fit within each other, on top of each other. I love the detail layering provides. This means that I have a healthy stash of dimensional adhesives on hand, as I love to adhere my layers with varying heights.
In the cluster on this page I was able to layer two ephemera hearts, a word banner and also a paper clip. The paper clip actually served two functions – one is that it looked cute and matched the colour scheme and the second is that it helped to secure those layers in place.
Cut files are something which you will also see on my pages a lot. I own a Silhouette Cameo and know that it has definitely influenced my style and changed the way I think about and approach creating. This machine really provides endless opportunities in terms of design and for me that is so exciting! In this layout I have used a free cut file designed by Bea Valint that you can find here. I always source my cut files from a multitude of places, I love that everyone brings something a little different.
The backing of cut files can be a little tedious at times but I feel the result is worth it. I love that I am able to customise the files as I wish. I used the 6×6 pad to back the florals within the cut file here. The smaller designs and patterns are the perfect background.
To highlight the inside of some of the flowers I actually dug into my Take Me Away stash and used the cute little buttons. One thing I love about the Paige Evans designer collections is that they complement each other so well!
The title on today’s page was also incorporating some of the gorgeous Take Me Away mirror stickers. I recently learned via a YouTube process video that these stickers have a protective film on them, wow, they are so pretty and shiny once you actually peel off that film! It can be a little tricky to remove, but don’t fear, it is there and you will never believe how stunning they are (unless you already knew that and weren’t silly like me!).
Thanks so much for stopping by and seeing my moment in the spotlight!
