It’s the end of the school year and all of the teachers out there definitely need to feel the love! A simple handmade gift is a great way to thank a teacher for all of their hard work over the past school year. There are a lot of ideas out there for teacher gifts, so I have a tutorial to share with you today for creating a handmade pencil holder.
Here’s how you can create your own pencil holder:
Step 1: Grab your supplies. You’ll need an empty Pringles can or you could also use an empty canned goods can. Also, choose your favorite Pink Paislee 12×12 patterned paper, some scissors, adhesive, and twine.
Step 2: Decide on the height of your pencil holder. I wanted mine to be 5.5″ tall. Then cut your patterned paper for that measurement.
Step 3: Add adhesive to the back edge of your patterned paper. I used my permanent adhesive tape runner. As you roll the paper over your Pringles can, continue to add adhesive to the back side of the paper. Once you have fully wrapped the paper, use Scotch tape to secure the edge.
Step 4: Trim away the excess Pringles can, above your patterned paper line. Use your scissors to cut a line from the top of the can to the top edge of the paper and make a duplicate cut about an inch over. Then you can turn your scissors to cut away the excess above the patterned paper.
Step 5: Use twine to cover the top edge of the can and wrap around several times to create a decorative look on the pencil holder. Make sure you use a strong adhesive like a glue gun to adhere the twine.
Step 6: Create a personalized tag to add to your pencil holder. There are some great embellishments in the Oh My Heart collection that are perfect for making your tag.
This is a super cute way for teachers to keep pencils on their desk or store rulers and scissors close by!
