If you’ve been crafting for awhile, I’m sure you have a favorite technique! It’s Ashley, and I’m here today to share my favorite technique which is a few of my favorite techniques combined into one! I love using cut files, hand stitching, and a mix of patterned papers and usually all together on one layout. Since we’ve been taking a lot of photos already this summer, I decided to work with the fun Summer Lights collection.
I started my layout in Silhouette Studio by tracing a cut file and cutting it as a negative design from one of the Summer Lights patterned papers. Before removing the background paper from my Cameo, I also drew the outer circles with one of the Silhouette Sketch Pens. I chose 3 different color of embroidery floss that coordinated with the Summer Lights collection to stitch around the circles. And since my cut file had negative space, I backed each of the triangles with different patterned papers from the 6×6 paper pad. Before adding my photo and embellishments, I machine stitched between each of the triangle shapes.
I wanted my photo front and center, so I used some pop dots to place it right in the center of the layout. The Coastline Thickers were perfect for my title and I added it above and below the photo to add balance. I always like to cluster a few embellishments around my photo because it helps draw attention to it… and it looks cute!
To finish up the layout, I brought in a few more embellishments. I placed some of the stickers, chipboard pieces, and ephemera pieces inside several of the triangle shapes. This is a great way to feature more products on your layout without covering up much of your design. And to keep the dimensional look going on my layout I adhered some of the embellishments with more pop dots.
Do you have a favorite technique you like using on your projects? If so, I would love to hear about it in the comments! If not, I hope you’ll give one of mine a try or go crazy and use all three!
