Hey everyone, it’s Elsie here kicking off this week’s new theme: ‘Ribbons & Sequins & Washi! Oh My!’. As you might’ve guessed, this week we’re focusing on using the ribbons, sequins and washi from the new Turn The Page collection on our projects.
Today I’m talking you through how these embellishments make it so easy to add some adorable finishing touches to your designs. And of course, I couldn’t resist making a ‘Lions & Tigers & Bears! Oh My!’ layout for ‘Ribbons & Sequins & Washi! Oh My!’ week… I had to!
First up: washi tape! I love the washi from Turn The Page. There are three sheets of 12” washi strips in a variety of designs and styles, making them versatile for any project (I love that they can stretch across a full 12×12 layout!).
I used mine in a couple of ways on this page. I used some washi tape to back some of my floral die-cuts by adhering them to a piece of white paper and treating them the same as I would a patterned paper.
I also tried fussy-cutting the washi, I hadn’t even done this before but it was pretty easy to do with some sharp scissors and a little bit of patience! Before I added the butterflies to the top of my page, it was looking quite bare, but I didn’t want to add anything too distracting or busy. So these fussy-cut washi butterflies came in really handy to add in some extra pops of colour. I also think that their translucency creates a really beautiful soft and hazy effect.
I love the ribbon pack from Turn The Page, there’s such a good mix of designs and styles which make incorporating ribbons into your projects even more fun!
I adore the mint green ribbon with white stars, so I was eager to use it on this page. After a couple of attempts and watching a fair few video tutorials I managed to tie a really neat small bow. I used the mint green ribbon as I knew whatever animal I placed the bow on, it would contrast nicely to their colouring.
I have a slight obsession with using sequins on my scrapbook pages! I love the glimmer and glitz they add to a page without being too obtrusive (I usually use some plain clear/iridescent sequins), but I was so excited to use the Turn The Page sequins.
Adding sequins is always the final step of any page I make, so I kept it simple and used the yellow star sequins from the pack and dotted them across the top half of my page. I love how luminous and bright these sequins are, it really brightens up my page even more!
