Tell us a little bit about yourself: Hello everyone! My name is Nathalie DeSousa (aka Tachita – it has been my nickname since I was a baby-), I was born in Ecuador, but have lived in Toronto, Canada for over 25 years. I have been blessed to be a stay-at-home wife and mom to 2 teenagers and our Boston Terrier baby. My love for arts and crafts comes from my mom who taught us at an early age that “homemade” was better and made sure we learned and practiced all our crafts. I credit her with my love of paper, color, stitching, art, photography and coffee!!!
How did you get started scrapbooking? My mom always took pictures of my sister and I when growing up, unfortunately when we moved to Canada, we lost most of the physical memories. Once I had my babies I looked for ways to safe keep all their memories and that is how I discovered scrapbooking. The concept of bringing all the stories out of my journal (I have kept journals since I was able to write!), into a visual artistic page is what draws me back to this craft.
What is your favorite Pink Paislee product? There are so many beautiful collections and products to chose from, but I think one of my most favorite is the Fancy Free collection by Paige Evans. I am still hoarding a few papers and pieces.
5 fun facts about you:
1. I don’t drive! It is my biggest fear (too many car accidents while growing up.)
2. After 25+ years in Canada, my Spanish accent is still present (we watch too many novelas – Spanish soap operas!)
3. Both my kids are Christmas babies (they were born on the 23rd and 27th of December). Let’s just say December is a very busy month!
4. I could live on black coffee and dark chocolate… YUM
5. I graduated from high school twice! Since I fast forwarded 2 years of primary school in Ecuador, I graduated from HS at 15 years old, and had to redo my last year of HS once we moved to Canada so that I could attend University. I love school!!!
I love FALL!, and what better way to document the season than by using the vibrant patterns and colors of the Turn the Page collection to recreate the falling leaves?! A cut file, and a bit of hand stitching add texture and dimension to each of the leaves in the project.
Fall is all about color! A little bit of antique gold acrylic paint in the background brings forward all the details in the cut outs of the page. The choice to use white for the cut outs accents all the fussy cut floral motifs and ephemera pieces layered under the picture.
I wanted to bring movement to the page (just like in the picture of my kids jumping after picking and eating too many apples!), so I used foam adhesive to attach the cut out to the page. A bit of shimmery watercolor was added to the white feathers which cause them to slightly warp, adding to the sense of movement. In addition, the B side of Paper 07 brings forward all the details of the feathers and works as the perfect background for the page.
To reflect the season in the card, I chose to use a cut file (the Leaves Background by Paige Evans found in the Silhouette Store). The window/frame design of the card helps to create the illusion of a leaves falling, and brings attention to the sentiment in the card (a bit of foam adhesive makes the chipboard sticker come forward from the background).
For the past years I have done all my journaling and memory keeping in Traveler’s Notebooks. I went back to my notebooks to choose just a few of my most favorite FALL memories, and recreated a TN about them. It all starts from the TN cover (laminated paper from the collection), to creating the insert and all the pages using the Turn the Page collection!!
Thank you so much to Nathalie for guest designing for our Fall Week!! We love love love each and every project she created!
