Wild Child: Unicorns & Rainbows!

Obsessed with the unicorn and rainbow trend? Then the new Wild Child collection is perfect for you! @heyelsie has gone unicorn and rainbow crazy with the new collection on the @pinkpaislee blog today! #pinkpaislee #ppWildChild #unicorn #rainbow #scrapbooklayout #12x12

Hey Pink Paislee fans, Elsie here on the blog today. Who else is embracing the unicorn and rainbow trend that seems to be everywhere at the moment? I definitely am, and so I was really excited to open my box of Wild Child goodies and see that there were unicorns and rainbows images in the collection! I just had to dive in and go “unicorn and rainbow crazy” on this layout.

elsie-wildchild1I love that there are fresh and bright colours throughout the collection, as well as some more muted tones. For this page I decided to focus on the bright tones and picked several strips of the brightest colours from various patterned papers to create my rainbow.

elsie-wildchild8To give the illusion of perspective each stripe of the rainbow has a wide base and ends at a small point. There are several stickers/embellishments in the collection that follow a similar design. I’ve never created or used anything that looks like that design, but I seriously love the fun and graphic look of it.

elsie-wildchild7I used a cut file to create my unicorn which made it so easy to put together. You could easily draw it by hand or trace an image if you don’t have a die-cutting machine.

elsie-wildchild4Recently I’ve been really enjoying cutting around the subjects of my photos. I love how the photo simultaneously blends in and works with the design of the layout, but it also stands out. I think it feels very pop-art like and works well with the designs in the Wild Child collection!

I clustered a few embellishments around the photo, like the ‘I’m so fancy’ speech bubble to help draw the eye to my photo. I also couldn’t resist popping a flower sticker onto my hair, I love the low-key hippie vibe going on in that cluster!

elsie-wildchild2Of course I had to add a few clouds on the page and stitch around them! And yes, one of the clouds has a face because… why not?! If you hadn’t already realised, I really didn’t hold back whilst making this page!

elsie-wildchild5Obviously (haha!) unicorns can’t fly and my unicorn needed some help to “fly” over the rainbow, so I stitched a little mint balloon and attached it to its back to make it look like the unicorn was being held up by the balloon.

I also had to use the ‘super fly’ chipboard piece as my title because, as my journalling says, ‘even unicorns need a little help sometimes’ but it definitely doesn’t make them any less fabulous!

elsie-wildchild7There are also rub-ons in this collection, which are one of my all-time favourite products. I always forget how addictive they are to use, until I’m using them and I can’t stop! But the small and colourful star rub-ons were the perfect sprinkles to add the finishing touch to this page.

elsie-wildchild3I can’t believe I haven’t made a unicorn-themed layout until now, but I hope I’ve more than made up for that on this page and you’re inspired to create some projects with the Wild Child collection!

Just superb… so pretty and fun and the care you take with every single detail – like lining up that stitching! – just mind-blowing xx
