Hello everyone and happy new year! It’s Zinia here and this week we are welcoming 2018 with our crafty projects! Every year has its ups and downs but at the end of it, we choose which memories we want to carry over. I keep hearing people saying that 2017 was one of the toughest year yet but when I look back I only see amazing things that happened during this year. That’s not because things were so nice and smooth for me but because I chose to focus on the good times, on all those memories that I want to remember for many years to come.
I’m really happy and grateful for many things that happened this year, some bigger and some smaller but all of them had such a great impact on my life. So to celebrate the new year I chose a picture from the most amazing thing that happened to me in 2017, my vacation with my boyfriend. You might be thinking, what’s so special about a vacation? It was actually our very first vacation together. We’ve been in a long-distance relationship for a few years now so spending a whole month together was a huge thing.
I can’t even begin to describe how precious all the memories from that month are and how I treasure all of the one thousand photos (yes, literally one thousand photos) we took during those days.
But let’s talk a little bit more about the design. I used a beautiful flower cut file designed by Paige Evans and I cut its petals from three different sheets of patterned paper to create an ombre effect.
Florals and butterflies are two of my most favorite things ever so even though it’s winter, I still wanted to start my year in a colorful and blooming mood. I picked a few of my favorite chipboard, ephemera, and stickers from Paige’s Turn the Page collection and I started embellishing around my design.
I already knew the title I wanted to use. Turn the Page is full of great sentiments to start a new year but the one I really wanted for this page was the speech-bubble saying “the best is yet to come” because that’s exactly how I’m feeling!
I also added some dashed lines near my butterflies and sprinkled the whole page with happy dots of colorful mists to create a more whimsical feel to the layout.
I’m really excited and happy about this page and of course the new year that just started! I’m planning to actually hang this layout on the wall as a constant reminder of the amazing 2017 memories and all the great hopes and dreams about an even better 2018.
I really hope you enjoyed this page. I don’t usually share too many details about my life but today I really wanted to share a piece of my story with you and motivate you to create a page that really makes you happy to celebrate the beginning of the new year.
Until next time, happy crafting!
