Mothers: Mom’s The Word!

Hey everyone, it’s Elsie here kicking off ‘Mothers’ week on blog with a layout that’s all about my lovely Mum. Over here in the UK we had Mother’s Day back in March, but Mum’s are amazing all year round so there’s never a bad time to create a project dedicated to them!

Elsie_May7_Mothers_1For this layout I started with this beautiful cut file. I absolutely loved it because I knew I could place a long title on the banners and thought the style matched well with the Auburn Lane collection.

I had to do a bit of editing and in my Silhouette software to be able to cut out the house, banners and roof from different patterned papers, but that didn’t take long to do at all.

Elsie_May7_Mothers_2I chose the ‘B’ side of paper 01 to cut my house on, as I love how the subtle tone-on-tone pink pattern contrasts with the grey roof (paper 11), and the newspaper print banners (paper 04).

And if you know me, you’ll know that I couldn’t resist stitching around the house and banners with some matching embroidery thread. I love the textural and cutesy look of stitching, so I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing it on my layouts!

Elsie_May7_Mothers_6I don’t usually place the focal images in the centre of my scrapbook pages, but in this instance the house worked best in the middle of my page.

To help frame the page and draw the focus to the house/title I stitched some clouds with white cardstock, which helped create a cute and whimsical scene!

Elsie_May7_Mothers_3I used the amazing ‘Happy Life’ thickers to spell out my title. This style of thickers is the best! Since they’re such a small size I can spell out a relatively long title and still have loads of letters left over! I chose the white/gold foam alphas from the set to match the vellum floral ephemera pieces.

Elsie_May7_Mothers_8Talking of flowers, I used the floral die-cuts to create some pretty clusters around the house and my photo. I used a combination of the cardstock as well as the gold vellum pieces to get a little more shine onto my page. I love how in the ephemera pack you get very large die-cuts as well as small ones, this creates more interesting and varied embellishment clusters!

Elsie_May7_Mothers_7And finally for even more whimsy, I placed some of the gold foiled heart stickers coming out of the chimney. I also created some bunting with some of the small pennant stickers as I felt the top right corner needed a little extra interest.

Elsie_May7_Mothers_4I love how this layout turned out, and I think I’m actually going to put this in a shadow box frame to give as a gift to my Mum.

Thanks for joining me today and I hope you’re also inspired to create a layout about the amazing Mums you know!
