One of my go-to embellishing techniques is to match colors. On this simple layout about a conversation I had with my nephews, I really just wanted to let the words and that pretty patterned paper from the Wild Child collection take center stage.
By matching my simple embellishments with the blocks of color on the background I can add detail without anything pulling your eye too much.
I cut around part of the cloud on the background so I could tuck my photo into place. This gives a nice home for a title and makes the photo, which is very high contrast with the rest of the page, feel like it belongs there.
I added my journaling into the clouds using a light gray pen to keep it airy. I added a little subtitle using those awesome white foam letter Thickers from the Pick-Me-Up collection – I just colored them with an alcohol marker to match the melon color in the paper.
For a simple embellishment, I added punched stars in coordinating colors and popped them up on foam squares so you get that little bit of shadow and dimension. I love the subtle pop!

Do you have a pretty patterned paper that you would like to put on show?
