Hey friends! It’s Elsie here and for today’s layout I’ve created a page which celebrates the New Year in a very “keepin’ it real” kinda way! I used the Whimsical collection to create this page, so let me talk you through my process…
As soon as I saw this ‘New Year, same hot mess’ cut file I knew I had to use it on a page. It felt appropriate because there’s no point in me making New Year’s resolutions, because I immediately brake them! So I decided that I wanted to make this fun title the main focal point of my page, so I sized it to stretch across the entire background and cut it on some white cardstock.
Paper 16 is one of my favourite papers in the Whimsical collection. I’ve previously used the B side as a background, but this time I wanted to use the fun rainbow pattern on the A side. I used this rainbow pattern to back the title, because I love that you can see all of the strips of colour behind each word.
I cut down my white cardstock background, and adhered strips of the rainbow pattern on the right and left side of my page, so the rainbow stripes went across the entire 12×12 layout for a fun and colourful design element.
Rather than having a straight edge to separate the rainbow pattern and white cardstock, I created a gradient design by punching some stars with white cardstock and clustering them along the edge. This reminds me of confetti or fireworks, so it’s the perfect element for a New Year’s page.
I’m a big fan of the tone-on-tone technique when I’m embellishing, and this layout was ideal for that technique since I have all the colours from the Whimsical collection on my background! I used floral die-cuts, fussy-cut clouds and butterflies and adhered them across the page.
