Hi everyone! I’m sure I’m not the only one with a scrap bin that is overflowing with gorgeous scraps that don’t deserve to remain hidden away. Encouragement cards are a fabulous way to both use up some of your scraps and put a smile on someone’s face. I used some of my Pick-Me-Up scraps and embellishments to create a couple of cards to send to someone special.
Start with a piece of plain scrap paper the same size, or slightly smaller, than your card base. Then pick through your scraps and cut a variety of different sized strips. I cut both 1 inch and 1/2 inch strips for my cards.
Start gluing your strips down onto your scrap paper. You can do this anyway you choose, but I chose to use a slight angle to give the card a bit more movement and interest. Make sure you overhang the edges of your scrap piece so that the entire piece is covered. Once covered, flip it over and trim off all the overhanging pieces.
Adhere to your card base, I chose to stitch it using my sewing machine and some metallic thread. Tip: Using a metallic needle for your sewing machine will make the process much easier. Metallic thread can shear and break when using a regular needle.
Choose a sentiment die cut and before adhering it to the front of your card with foam squares, create a nest of bundled up thread to place underneath. Then decorate your card front with sequins, stickers, or chipboard pieces. Placing these embellishments in and under and around your thread and die cut will add even more surprise and interest to the card.
I hope you’ll use up some of those scraps and create a card to put a smile on someone’s face. I know I love getting something pretty in the mail!
