Flutterby Butterfly Layout | Kylie Kingham

Hello friends! It’s Kylie back with you again today on the blog with another colourful layout to share. Even though it’s autumn here in Australia, I have been inspired to create lots of spring inspired projects lately. I created this layout with the beautiful Whimsical collection, featuring lots of colour, texture and dimension.

To begin with I cut the Mandala Half cut file by Paige and backed it with Paper 16. This created a lovely background for my layout and a starting point to build around once I had adhered it to my background page, Paper 15.

When I saw these lovely Layered Butterfly cut file, also designed by Paige, it was love at first sight! Nothing speaks spring more than a butterfly and these were perfect for my layout. I cut them out in two different sizes from varying papers and joined them together with some machine stitching. I love the rustic appeal this gave to them. Once they were all attached together I curled the wings up a little to separate each layer.

It was at this point I felt the background needed something else. So I tore a strip across the top right hand side corner and added some contrasting papers. On one layer I used a punch from my stash to add some extra detail.

With creating such a colourful layout I wanted to make sure my photo stood out from the colourful background, so I printed it in black and white. I have surrounded it with lots of flower die cuts and layered butterflies.

The little mini Alpha stickers were perfect for adding a fun title to my layout. At this point I decided to add some basic back stitching by hand underneath the layered butterflies with 6 stranded embroidery thread.

With my layout all complete I love the dimension it has. The butterflies look like they are ready to take flight!
