Hello friends! It’s Kylie with you all today on the blog and I am sharing a fun little set of cards I made using the Auburn Lane collection. I was inspired by the floral theme in this range for my cards and chose one of Paige’s Butterfly cut files to be the main focal point of my designs. They feature lots of layers and machine stitching with loose ends to give a shabby chic appearance.
When creating sets of cards, I find it fun to keep the same design for all of them but use different colour and paper combinations. That way you have a ‘same but different’ finished result. Each individual card takes on its own style yet still fits into the overall theme of the set. I intermixed lots of florals, stripes, and polka dots for each card.
For the butterflies I selected three different paper combinations for each size, which gave me two of each colour once they were cut. I layered them together and machine stitched them through the centre to hold them in place leaving the cotton ends quite long for effect. A stitched border was also added to the scalloped circle behind the butterfly, which I had cut with a die from my stash. To adhere the butterflies to my cards, I used foam tape down the centre and some double sided tape to the edge of the back layer so that it sits slightly curved.
I love seeing all the dimension and texture the cards have once completed.
When it came to adding the sentiment die cuts to my cards I again used some foam tape so they sit up from the cards background. Whilst each butterfly has been placed just slightly off centre, I did centre each of the word sentiments.
I have also filmed a short process video which shows how my cards came together.
Now they are all ready to be attached to a gift or delivered to someone special.
Thanks for stopping by today to see my cards!
