Hello everyone! It’s Kylie back with you all today and I am sharing a new layout I have created featuring the stunning Horizon collection. The main focal point of my layout is the ‘Beautiful’ cut file which designed by Paige. I wanted my layout to have lots of texture and color, which I have achieved by using a few different techniques.
It took me a while to choose a background paper for this layout but in the end went with white. Once completed I felt it really help make the elements of my design stand out. I began by cutting the cut file, which I did twice. Once for the frame and then again to cut the outer edge only. This piece acted as a backing for the frame.
Next I cut 1 inch strips of paper in various colors and added them to the backing mat of my cutting machine. With a ‘fringe’ cut file I had, I proceeded to have each strip cut in fringes. This method however could easily be done with scissors too! Once each strip was cut, I began layering them over each other on top of the backing piece of the ‘Beautiful’ cut file and adhering into place with glue. Once it was covered I used my craft knife to trim away any edges that were over hanging. I didn’t mind leaving some slight over hang or rough edges and felt this added to the overall finish of my layout.
It was at this point I thought to add some stitching to the frame of my ‘Beautiful’ cut file and did so with white embroidery floss using a basic back stitch. This added a lovely texture and helped the frame sit up a little once adhered to the backing piece.
With my photo in place I began layering some of the floral die cuts. Foam tape was used on some so they sat up from the background, giving them some dimension also.
I fussy cut one of the wave strips from Paper 08 and felt it would make a nice border piece to the side of my layout. Once in place I added a thin strip of Paper 01, layered through the center.
I love the phrase sentiments on Paper 20, so I cut apart some and created a subtitle to support my photo. To help them stand out from the white background I added a free hand drawn border with a fine tip black pen. I don’t try to be neat with this and rather like the effect of it being uneven.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my latest project today!
