Hi everyone it’s Kylie! Today I am sharing a new little mini album I have been working on featuring the super pretty Horizoncollection. I wanted to start an album for my daughter to fill over the next 6 months or more. I needed something that would house quite a few pages, therefore went with a handmade book with a coptic binding.
Coptic bookbinding is a method or another way to bind your book with a spine that opens up completely so you can lay your book flat. This is a technique perfect for creating a mini album with lots of pages. To make the process easier I used Paige’s new Book Binding Tool which is fabulous!
To begin creating my album I made seven individual booklets, also known as ‘signatures’. (You can make as many as you like though.) Each signature has four sheets of regular printing paper folded in half with a booklet cover from some of the Horizon papers. I used regular printing paper for two reasons: so it wouldn’t be too thick and because I wanted to line each page with the Horizon papers as a background. Each cover was constructed from thick cardstock and covered with the beautiful Paper 09. My mini album measures 6 x 4″ (15 cm x 10 cm).
Following the instructions included with Paige’s book binding tool I found it very easy to stitch together and even managed to add some of the Horizon charms as well as a few butterfly charms from the Whimsical collection. I love the color it adds to the spine of my album.
Thanks to its cute size I find the pages so easy to fill. I have lined each page as I mentioned before with some of the papers and have also used some of Paige’s cut files such as this Half Flower cut file. I also used some of the small squares from the swatch books behind my photo as a background. Paper 20 features lots of phrase sentiments which I have fussy cut out and added over my flower as a sub title.
I backed Paige’s “Beautiful” cut file with lots of colorful papers and added some stickers from the Horizon craft paper pad to embellish it. I love having each page unique and so colorful. No two are the same.
For a touch of extra sparkle I added some gold mist spray from my craft stash over the Deer cut file and added some cute, tiny flowers that I fussy cut from Paper 23.
I thought this album would be great for journaling or adding in movie tickets etc for memory keeping also. I’ll keep adding to these pages in the months to come and can’t wait to see all the color once it has had its pages filled!
Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have enjoyed seeing some of my mini album pages and it inspires you a little to try one for yourself. Happy scrapping!
