Hi friends, it’s Lisa back on the blog and today I’m sharing a new layout I created using the amazing and colorful Truly Grateful collection by Paige Evans.
When I went to Lago Maggiore, Italy in July, me and my girlfriends took a trip to Isola Madre, Isola Bella, and Isola del Pescatore. The three mini islands are one of the most pretty places I’ve ever been. Of course we took tons and tons of photos and one of them is the one I used on this layout. I wanted a dreamy and floral layout for this picture.
I started by choosing a cut file and I found this digital stamp/clipart on Etsy. The lines were a lot too thin to use it as a cut file, it would’ve ripped all the time and it would’ve been impossible to put glue on the lines. So what I did instead, is using the inner pieces as guides to create the pieces for my design.
If you look closely on the picture, you can see that the white parts are not the cut file, but they are the white sheet of paper, I used to glue all the pieces down. So, for the face, for example, I took the piece that my Silhouette cut out, I traced it on some peachy patterned paper, I cut it out, and adhered it to the sheet of paper. I did this for all the pieces, leaving some tiny space between each piece to complete the whole design and to give the illusion of a backed cut file. This is a great way or trick to use cut files, digital stamps, or clip art where the lines are just too thin to use them as is.
When I had my main little cutie all done, I did a bit of mixed media on a white 12×12 sheet of cardstock. I put some gesso on it first to ensure that the color would not seep into the paper right away and then I had some fun making some pink and peachy splotches of color. When everything was dry, I splattered some gold color shine on the page.
I placed my cup on the layout, matted my picture with some scraps of patterned paper, and adhered it next to the cactus cup. I then fussy cut some leaves and used some pieces of ephemera as embellishments. I also used some heart wood veneers.
For my title, I used the beautiful and fun Thickers from Truly Grateful and wrote the name of the island, Isola Madre (which means Mother Island). I think it looks so good and fun with all the colors, especially because the blue of the picture is the same as the blue patterned papers.
I also did my Missy Whidden at the end and nestled some pink thread in three places. I finished the embellishing with some puffy dots and I was done.
I really hope you like it guys, let me know on Insta and YouTube! Thank you for being here, see you soon!
