Hey friends, it’s Lisa back on the blog. A few weeks ago I taught a workshop in Rome where I created a mini album with the Paige Evans Truly Grateful collection. People really liked it and I had a lot of fun creating it with them.
The base of the album is made out of cardboard to make it sturdy and to make it last forever I used two 11×11 cm pieces of cardstock and one 4×11 cm piece. I adhered them on patterned paper like this:Then I snipped the four edges and folded the excess patterned paper over the cardstock, using a very strong sticky tape. To hide the cardstock that was still visible, I used another piece of patterned paper, around 22×26 cm and adhered it on top of the cardstock. Like that, the cardstock was fully hidden by patterned paper. I folded the two sides (the 11×11 pieces), to close the album and create a cover and a back.
For the inside, I cut six 11x22cm pieces of patterned papers and folded them in the middle to create my pages. I pierced them in the fold at 1cm, 3.5cm, 7.5cm and 10cm. I also pierced the side of the album at the same lengths, leaving around 6mm between each row.
Then I starting making my paper beads. For the beads, you only need to cut out a very long, very thin triangle of paper. You roll it, starting from the wider side, and when you reach the pointy end, you glue it down. That’s it For this album I needed 14 beads.
When I had my base, my paper beads, and my pages ready, I started stitching everything together. For each page, I started on the inside of the album, piercing the needle through the page and the back of the album and doing a simple backstitch. Then I tied a knot on the inside of the album. While I was stitching, I added the beads and the sequins, each time I came back out with the needle. I hope you can understand what I mean…
The big flower on the cover I created by hand cutting three flowers out of patterned papers and adding three more that I cut out from the floral paper. I made a cute puffy center by taking a 2x2cm circle and folding the edges to the center all around until I had a little puffy polka dot.
I also created a little tassel with my leftover beads and a little mini tassel I made.
On the inside pages I decorated very little and minimal so that the participants could also add stuff they liked and make it more personal. Here are some of the pages:
I hope you like the album and are inspired to make one too
