Hi friends, it’s Lisa back on the blog and today I’m sharing this fun wintery layout.
I wanted to use the Truly Grateful collection for this layout but wanted it to look really frosty and cold. Nothing easier than that. You only need to choose all the cold colors and you have yourself a wintery color palette. I added a mint cardstock sheet to add another color that would make this color scheme perfect.
What I had in mind when I started this layout was the stitched frame. I wanted to create little snowflakes all around the layout with different colors. So to start, I chose three papers from the Truly Grateful collection. The blue one would be the outer frame, the white polka-dotted one, the background and the pink one, I would use to cut out an inner frame on which I would stitch the snowflakes.
When I had everything adhered together, I started with the stitching. I chose five colors. For each snowflake, I stitched two crosses on top of each other. It took some time, but I really love the end result.
When the frame was done, I added some gesso to the center of my background paper. I smooshed it around, keeping the lightest part in the center and fading it out on the sides. While the gesso was drying, I let my Silhouette machine cut out the Snowflakes Background cut file by Paige Evans. It consists of nine snowflakes that are linked together. I cut them apart and only used five of them. I backed the holes with the patterned papers I chose in the beginning and then I adhered them to one of the patterned papers and cut them out, leaving a small border.
I didn’t really know how I would lay them on the layout and I also wanted to add some kind of center to each snowflake, but also didn’t know how or what. So I chose to work with the photo first. I backed it with the same patterned papers and tried to find a good spot for it. Then I took the snowflakes and tried out how I would want them to be on the layout. When I had everything the way I liked it, I adhered everything down.
I still needed to find something for the snowflake centers. I created some cute faces (the ones you can see on the featured picture) but that wasn’t it. So I decided to create some 3D flowers. I cut them out by hand because I was too lazy to play with my Silhouette machine again ;). Then I chose a title and used Thickers from the Truly Grateful collection and also mini foam Thickers from the Auburn Lane collection.
Since the foam Thickers are gold, I decided I needed some more gold on my layout. I added gold glitter paper strips behind my photo, gold thread behind three of the snowflakes, and gold splatters. After all that, I was done!
I really hope you like the layout and are inspired to use any collection to create a winter layout.
