Hey there, Diane Williams here with you today! What could be better than creating a little box bursting with positivity and kindness for yourself or someone you love? That was exactly what I set out to achieve when I created this Pocket MemoryDex box using the gorgeous new Bloom Street collection.
To begin, I found a box that would fit MemoryDex cards inside it. I was lucky enough to find one at my local dollar store, but if you can’t find one, you could always make one to fit. I painted the box white and then covered each side with a piece of Paper 16. I stitched around each edge to add a little texture. I lined the inside of the box with Paper 2 and then attached one of the metal flower charms to the front.
To create the pocket on each MemoryDex card, I used the MemoryDex thin metal dies to cut two different patterned cards – one for the front and one for the pocket. I took the pocket piece and trimmed the top off so it was approximately 2″ high. Then I used my sewing machine to stitch the two pieces together to create a pocket on the back of the card.
Having a little pocket on the back means you can create this style of box for multiple purposes. Fill it with photos and journalling if you want to use it for documenting special occasions or trips. Or you can fill it will little gifts and words of encouragement if you want to send some happy mail to someone special.
I carried on making cards until I had enough to fill up my box! I made sure to use a variety of sizes, shapes, and patterns to keep each card a little bit different and varied.
On each card, I layered different papers and textures, adding stitching and fussy-cut sentiments. Washi tape is an easy was to add an extra layer and pops of colour and don’t forget to add little details like enamel stickers and gems.
I created a shaker card by cutting an extra card from vellum and adding some sequins before stitching it all together. Those glittery little details make a lovely sound and add a fun dimension to the card. I love adding positive words to these cards and I created my own sentiment using puffy sticker words and words trimmed from Paper 13.
I made some cards more layered than others but I love adding dimension so I added extra foam adhesive in behind some stickers and layered others directly onto the card.
I love making these little layered cards and I can’t wait to send this box of positivity off to its new home. And then I might need to make another for myself because I can’t get enough!
