Hello lovely friends. It’s Kylie back with you again sharing a bright and cheery new layout. A technique I love to use a lot in my designs is creating my own different shaped backgrounds on a layout. It’s a great way of adding a lot of texture and interest to your work. For my 12×12 layout today I worked with the gorgeous Bloom Street collection and have used the cute patterned swatch book to create my background.
I selected 15 swatches and added some very crooked machine stitching around each border. Alternating straight stitch and zig-zag between each piece. I overlapped my runs and left the cotton ends exposed. The messier it looks the more I love the textural definition it gives. Each edge was distressed a little before I added them to white cardstock with foam tape. This gives the effect of looking like they are floating above the background page – again adding nice dimension to your completed work.
A cute cluster of floral die cuts were added to the top left hand corner of my page. I love layering these together and have also added a silver ‘love’ sticker. I wanted my page to have a cascading flow of flowers so this point was the beginning for it.
My photo has also been printed square to around 3×3″ and I have added machine stitching as a border around the edges for something different. Once my photo was in place I could continue with adding the flow of my flowers.
I always think I am going to keep my embellishing quite simple, but then I begin playing and get totally carried away with how gorgeous these die cuts are. You can never have too many flowers after all! I added some with foam tape so they give the appearance of having rise and fall. I’ve used some of the puffy phrase stickers to create my main title as well as adding holographic stickers as a mini subtitle. To finish my page I couldn’t resist adding a large butterfly die cut and love the burst of color against the white background.
So you can see exactly how my page came together I have filmed a video tutorial for you to watch:
Thanks so much for checking out my layout today. I hope you have enjoyed seeing how it came together!
