Creating with the Cuttlebug

Hey everyone!  Roree here, and today I have a Halloween project to share with you using the Cuttlebug.  I’ve created some Halloween Treat Bags.

I found the black bags at the craft store.  I cut about an 1 1/2″ off the top of each of the bags with pinking shears, so they fit into my Cuttlebug embossing folders.  I embossed them, then I added stickers, brads, chipboard letters, and paper from the Phantom collection to decorate them.

(Spiderweb embossing folder)

(Skeleton Scroll embossing folder)

(Mini Monsters embossing folder set)

(Diamonds in the Rough embossing folder)

Supplies used:

Phantom – 6×6 Paper Pack 00569

Phantom – Element Stickers 00559

Phantom – Brads 00560

Phantom – Chipboard Alphabet 00562

Cuttlebug (Diamonds in the Rough, Mini Monsters, Skeleton Scroll, and Spiderweb embossing folders)

Cricut Expression (Happy Hauntings cartridge)

I finished the bags off by adding some shredded paper and candy.  It is a quick and easy way to dress up your Halloween treats.

Hope you enjoyed today’s project.  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Hot Hues Color Challenge – September

Hey everyone!  Roree here, and I have September’s Hot Hues Color Challenge for you.  Here it is:

Such a gorgeous color palette that works beautifully with the Vintage Vogue collection!

When I saw the line-up of colors and got my Vintage Vogue goodies out to start creating, I noticed that all of the circles in the color swatch shown reminded me of the colors in the Spool Buttons package.  I got so inspired by that and the design of the Hot Hues image, that I used the image as a  sort of sketch for my layout.

Here is what I came up with:

I used the Spool Buttons along the edge to mirror the color swatch, and I placed Ephemera and Chipboard Pops in a collage style in place of the photos.

I also used some of the new Wood Shop Wood Chip alphas for my title.  (I am just crazy about this font!  Love it!)

Product Pick: Vintage Vogue Jumbo Buttons

Hello!  Roree here, and today I wanted to share a project with you using the new Jumbo Buttons from the Vintage Vogue collection.

Aren’t they pretty!?  Buttons are one of my favorite embellishments, and I just loved using these large, decorative buttons. This set comes with buttons that are flat backed (no shanks) so they are easy to use on cards, layouts and other crafting projects.

Here is a layout I made using the buttons:

I used the purple jewel buttons as the centers for the flowers I made using the Cricut Expression and Sweet Treats cartridge, but they work well on their own also.

They were very easy to attach.  For the buttons with a solid back, I used a liquid adhesive (ZipDry) and just let them set to dry.  For the other, I hand stitched it onto the layout.

I finished off my layout with some of the Ephemera, a spool button, some Brads, and Sawdust Wood Shop letters.

Designer Details: Back to School

Hey everyone!  Roree here.

Today’s blog post is all about the details we add to add our projects to make them a little more special.  Adding the littlest thing can make the biggest difference.   And since it’s time for the kids to start back to school, I decided to create a card and pencil bouquet for teacher to start the year off on the right foot.

Since red, yellow, and blue are classic colors for school projects, I decided to use papers from the Nantucket collection to make my card and flowers.  The lighter palette gives the card and flowers a softer feel.

For the card, I used my Cricut Expression and Making the Grade and Plantin SchoolBook cartridges to cut out an apple and star shapes (classic for back to school).  I added lots of machine stitching to help make the pieces stand out a bit more and give them a finished look.  I also layered the Wood Shop alphas to add more dimension to the card.

I cut out flowers using my Cricut Expression and Doodlecharms cartridge.  I cut the same flower shape in multiple sizes.  I punched a hole in the center, layering them on the pencil from smallest to largest, and leaving the eraser showing for the flower’s center.  I also place some foam adhesive between the flower die-cuts to make the flower fuller.  I finished by tying the flowers off with the striped Nantucket ribbon.

The extra little touches definitely add up for a great result.  And, this is a fun and easy way to let your child’s teacher know how much they are appreciated and help to brighten her day.

I hope you enjoyed today’s project.    Thanks so much for stopping by!

Today’s Tutorial: Ribbon panels

Hey everyone!  Roree here.  Do you sew?  I love to sew.  It is one of my very favorite techniques to use on my projects.  My tutorial today is about creating fabric panels from ribbon.  I created a couple of cards showcasing this technique using the new Mistables muslin scallop ribbons and pleated ribbon strips.

To create a fabric panel, I cut 6 strips of ribbon slightly smaller than card: 3 from the scallop ribbon and 3 from the pleated ribbon. (I broke the seams to undo the pleating.)

I overlapped  two panels (one scallop and one pleated) and sewed the panels together on my sewing machine with a zigzag stitch.

I continued overlapping the panels, alternating the scallop and pleated ribbon strips, and sewing them together.

This is what it looked like finished.

I  hand stitched some cross stitches in the scallops for a fun detail.

I then trimmed it up, adhered it to my card with double-sided tape, and finished adding embellishments.  This is how it turned out:

And here is another card I did using this technique.

For this card, I kept it simple.  I cut three ribbon strips, overlapped and sewed the panels together, and sewed the finished panel onto the card front.

You could easily leave out the sewing and just adhere ribbon to you card to get a similar effect.

Are you ready to break out the ribbon and start creating?  ;)

I hope you enjoyed today’s tutorial.  It really is a fun way to use up your ribbon.  Thanks so much for stopping by!
