Quotes {Use Alphas}

Happy Monday all!  It’s Corrie here and I am going to show you a layout that I made using a quote as my title.  Quotes can be pretty long, but they can be the perfect way to journal and title a page.  Plus, there are usually a few words that really tell the entire meaning you are trying to get across.  A helpful way to get across your true meaning is to use the different Pink Paislee alphas in a creative and meaningful way.  Here is my page…

“May you live everyday of your life.” -Jonathan Swift

The meaning I really wanted to get across to these girls was “live life”, so I knew these two words really needed to be the highlight of my title.  I pulled out the different alphas and began laying them out.  Using different size alphas really helps to emphasize different words in either your title or journaling.

The smallest alphas were perfect for the most insignificant parts of the quote and I gradually increased the size of the alphas to show the increasing meaning of the rest of the quote.

Pink Paislee products used:

Other supplies used:

  • Sewing machine
  • White Acrylic paint
  • Button
  • Pen

I hope you are inspired to mix and match your alphas to title and journal your pages!

Meet Creative Team Member Larissa Albernaz

Please welcome to our new team, designer Larrissa Albernaz!

A little about Larissa:

My name is Larissa Albernaz, and I´m from São Paulo, Brazil. I´ve been married to my sweet husband Flávio for 11 years and we have an adorable daughter Isabela. As a paper crafter, I have been scrapbooking for six years. Along these years, scrapbooking has provided me a great sort of artistic possibilities and a lot of fun! In fact, I love scrapbooking because I can express myself in style, mixing paper, embellishments, colors, memories and a message.

While scrapbooking, I pursue something that has sense to me, which inspires me and that can be different, interesting, cute, creative, colorful and fun!

I adore papers!  One of my life’s little pleasures is to cut, tear and distress them, creating anything that translates the story I want to tell. A scrap of paper is the perfect place for my dreams and impressions.

How did you get started in paper crafting?

When I got married, as my husband has photography as hobby, I started setting up albums of our trips, putting together a little bit of everything we brought such as tickets, stickers, post cards and so on. I even used some scrap products without even knowing the whole theory. When my daughter was born, I decided it was also time to tell the story behind those pictures. I set my first scrapbooking album during my pregnancy but, I made it with no techniques at all. It was only when she turned two years old that I saw an ad about a scrapbooking class near where I live. I got eager to learn more and nowadays I’m completely addicted. I’ve always loved to deal with paper. I made Origami, drawing, watercolour, but when it comes to something that uses a bit of everything, totally challenging and that compels me to learn new things daily, it becomes a passion.

What inspires you to create?

I´m used to getting inspired in absolutely every, everything! I pay close attention to movies, products, windows of stores, people, my thoughts, my daily life, alternate materials, works of art and I specially give attention to my inner emotions and to my daughter’s little childish world.

Do you prefer layouts, altered projects, cards…or all of the above?

I love creating scrapbooking pages and 3 dimensional projects!

How would you describe your style?

My style is eclectic, crafty.

A fun fact about you?

I don´t watch TV and that´s why I have more time to scrapbook.

Any other hobbies?

I tried a lot of things: dancing, origami, drawing, painting, but nowadays I don´t have extra time to try anything else but scrapbooking or photography.

What is your favorite Pink Paislee product?

Meet Creative Team Member Tina Albertson

Please help us welcome a very sweet returning team member whom we’ve missed very much, Tina Albertson

A little about Tina:

My name is Tina Albertson, I live in rural Indiana with my three daughters and husband. My only profession at this time (besides designing for Pink Paislee) is being a substitute teacher. Before that I taught scrapbook classes at two of our local stores. I am the current Vice President of our school’s PTO. Our family has a huge passion for camping, we spend every free weekend during the summer in our camper. My husband doesn’t have to work on the house, and I don’t have to cook and clean! I also spend a lot of my free time reading. I am a self-admitted geek.

How did you get started in paper crafting?

After my third daughter was born, I soon realized that if I didn’t record all the little things (first words, milestones, etc.) there would be no one to tell the stories. I went to our local scrapbook store and instantly fell in love. So much paper, so much color, so many things I needed! I think at that time it was KI Memories that did me in. There was no looking back after that.

What inspires you to create?

Whether it’s a pretty color combination, new scrapbook supplies, or online inspiration, I can always find an excuse to create.

Do you prefer layouts, altered projects, cards…or all of the above?

Given the choice, I would prefer to create a layout. I do enjoy making cards as long as they are simple and sweet. I really enjoy making mini albums!

How would you describe your style?

I can’t really say that I have a style. It depends upon my mood whether the layout turns out linear, shabby, messy, etc…but some things are always a staple in my layouts. Sewing, misting, and punches. I love all three and use them on almost every project. The great thing about scrapbooking is there’s no wrong or right way to create. Do what makes you happy!

A fun fact about you?

I have been playing softball for over 25 years. (Wow, does that ever date me!) For the past 8 years I’ve played for Fellowship Missionary Church. I earned the nickname “Wheels” because I’m fast, and play left field. I also love reading any books with an apocalyptic genre (I have no stockpile or bomb shelter, sorry to disappoint).

Any other hobbies?

Lots! Camping, running (shooting for that marathon!), softball, reading (I have hundreds of books on my kindle), shopping (yes, this one is pretty original I know), cooking and eating (is eating a hobby?), sewing, and I’m in the process of teaching myself how to crochet. Pinterest is quickly showing me how many things I need to be working on!! Hand me some spray paint and a goodwill frame. I’m ready to get messy.

What is your favorite current Pink Paislee product?

Hands down, that would have to be Pink Paislee’s stamps. The possiblities with these are endless!

We love this colorful, fun layout she chose to share with us!

We look forward to working with Tina again! Please visit her blog at: www.tinaalbertson.blogspot.com.

Meet Creative Team Member Jennifer Evans

We have asked our new 2012 Design Team Members a little bit about themselves and we are anxious to find out more about these creative ladies! We’ll be meeting them throughout January! Right now please help me welcome Jennifer Evans to our team.

A little about Jennifer:

As an artist for the last eighteen years, I believe that if my hands aren’t stained from paint then I wasn’t having fun enough! I share my artistic passion with my husband and five year old son. We make our home in Oregon where we love the outdoors (when it isn’t raining!), photography, cooking a good meal, then eating it, and reading beside a warm fire.

How did you get started in paper crafting?

My twin sister, Rebecca, introduced me into scrapbooking and stamping twelve years ago. I kept my feet grounded and refused to take the plunge that she had. I held tight onto my canvas, paint brushes, and acrylics and watched as she continued to write and tell me about her new passion.

She even went as far as to send me an instructional video of her using eyelets to entice me. You know, when they first came out and you had to use a hammer? When I played the VHS (remember those?), all I saw was the top of her head and loud banging. I couldn’t even hear what she was saying over the noise. (She hates when I tell that story, but, man, it’s so funny!)

A year later I walked into a scrapbook store, fell in love with paper, and I dropped my art supplies thinking that I was to never to look at them again. It wasn’t until altered books and mixed media came into the Northwest that I began to realize that my first love for paint and canvas could be used with scrapbooking! Scrapbooking then became more of an artistic way for me to tell my story than just photos on a page to document an event.

How would you describe your style?

As a free-spirited Craft-Media artist, I have a passion for color; reduce, reusing, and recycling items to make them new again; and ultimately having fun and making a mess doing it! I am right brained and love using untraditional items to create meaningful pieces of art, while also trying to balance myself occasionally with a surprisingly clean and organized layout.

What inspires you to create?

I get my color inspiration from God’s beautiful creation, online like at Pinterest, or in home decor and fashion magazines. I always create a sketch before beginning unless I am working in my journal and then I just go with it!. I don’t always follow the sketch perfectly but it helps me get going creatively.

Once my little one is down for the night, I unpack my things in my art space. I create such a mess that I have at one time realized that I was working out into the hallway! I continue the piece until it is finished even if it is well past midnight. If there is chocolate in the house, I have already eaten it before the project is done. When I have the piece finished, I sigh with delight, look at the mess, and shake my head. How did it get that bad? I clean it up before crawling into bed exhaustively happy. If I have an itch to get the paint out but don’t want to clean the mess, I get on the laptop and do a digital layout to make up for it.

Do you prefer layouts, altered projects, cards…or all of the above?

When I am not scrapbooking, I have been known to try and be creative in other ways. Once I reupholstered my furniture and tried to change my light fixtures. My husband came home to a dark house and wires hanging from not one but three rooms. Yeah, let’s just say, my family doesn’t care what I create as long as I leave the electrical alone!

Any other hobbies?

I love photography. My husband and I also have a photography business where we are able to capture memories for others. I love to garden and will spend several hours in boots playing in my perennial garden, even if it is raining. Before I stayed at home with my son, I was a preschool teacher. So, I have a soft spot in my heart for children’s literature. My home is filled with bookshelves and I love to snuggle with picture books and my little man reading.

A fun fact about you?

I have a sweet addiction to chocolate, my favorite being Britain’s Cadbury Crunchie. Since I am unable to get the chocolate covered honeycomb locally anymore, any chocolate is its substitute. I also love Jane Austen, a warm blanket, and a hot cup of coffee.

What is your favorite Pink Paislee product?

I love Pink Paislee’s patterned papers! Not only are they bold, fresh, and one of a kind, but they go a long way! I always hoarded several sheets and have made them last for up to four projects!

We asked Jennifer to share one of her favorite Pink Paislee projects, and she chose this beautiful mini album with the Daily Junque line!

Please help us welcome Jennifer to our team!  We can’t wait to see more of her work in 2012! You can visit her blog at: www.createoften.blogspot.com.

Creating with Cricut: Thankful

Hey everyone!  Roree here, and today’s post is about Creating with the Cricut.  I just LOVE my Cricut, so this was a fun assignment to have this month.  And to keep in theme with Autumn/Thanksgiving, I decided to create a home decor piece for my mantle.

I started off with a piece of green patterned paper to use as the base of my project.  I cut it to fit inside of an 8 x 10″ frame.

I cut pumpkin shapes at 7″ using my Cricut Expression and Pumpkin Carving cartridge.  I used some green cardstock for the first layer and Mistables patterned paper for the second and third layers.   I misted the Mistables paper with Mister Huey’s Pumpkin Spice mist, and then I inked the edges of all three die-cuts with a light brown ink pad.

I altered the second layer by cutting off the stem and the third layer by cutting off the stem and outside edges.  I adhered the first two layers together, and then I popped up the third layer with foam adhesive.  I added the Wood Shop Wood Chip letters (inked with a brown ink pad) to the die-cut, and then  adhered the die-cut to my base patterned paper.

I added a tag cut at 1 1/2″ using the Cricut Expression and Give a Hoot cartridge and yellow patterened paper.  I inked it with a light brown ink pad and added rub-ons.  I tied it to the pumpkin with some twine.

I cut my leaves using the Cricut Expression and Create a Critter cartridge from the yellow patterned paper in multiple sizes (1 3/4″, 2″, and 2 1/4″).  I inked each leaf with a light brown ink pad all over, then I added a little red and green ink to add a little color.

I machine stitched the veins, crumpled the leaves, and then adhered them to each side of the pumpkin.  I finished with a bow and button at the center.

I found an old 8 x 10″ frame around my house that wasn’t being used, and I painted with with some off-white acrylic paint.  I then added the finished panel to the frame to finish.

Pink Paislee supplies:

Other supplies:

  • 8 x 10″ frame
  • Rub-ons
  • Button
  • Yellow embroidery thread
  • Sewing machine and green thread
