A Bit of Spooky

When I realized that my assignment this month included an “inspired by” post – needless to say after reading my assignment details,  I went straight to Pinterest.  It’s just amazes me with the amount of inspiration that can be found there and many a times, I wish my room looks just like that!  And when I saw this image below – I was inspired by the details within all the elements and the combination of colors that I went straight for the printer tray, grab the Phantom collection and got started working right away…

Mixing and matching the various elements from the Phantom collection to create my version of the frames (from the above image).

And sharing some close ups of my “spooky” tray, whereby I used one of the elements stickers as my title and others through out the tray; and don’t you love that silhouette one!

And for these squares below, I also used bits of the clear transparent frames to provide a contrast against the pattern papers and at the same time, adding another layer of details…

And I couldn’t resist adding in a bit of fun with the chalkboard stickers (from the daily junque collection)…

And my favorite part of this collection – is the glossy finish on some of the patterns/design on the pattern paper.  Such as the spider and beware details (these pictures are not doing it justice); as they really add that final finishing to the project.

A big thanks for stopping by everyone and would love to see/hear how pinterest has inspired you lately and also don’t forget the Phantom contest that we have going on right now!

It’s all in the details!

Hello! This is Danielle with today’s “Designer Details.”

Paying special attention to details while crafting is really one of the things I love so much about it. I love to create little surprises here and there in my work and add lots of layers and details. Similar to home decor design, layers add much more depth to the design and make it more interesting. Layers also give your details a home to rest, so they aren’t “floating” on your design.

Since the autumn season is almost here, I wanted to put together a “Gratitude” album – things I feel grateful for right now in my life. However, I wanted to try something different and NOT use the traditional fall colors for my album. I used the brand new Nantucket line instead! Who said “Gratitude” albums had to be all brown? Make them fun and colorful!

For the base of my mini album, I cut several pages out of light kraft cardstock for a neutral base and built my pages from there. On the cover, I have added details such as the machine stitching around the edges of the papers. I’ve stamped the sentiments right on patterned paper instead of cardstock. The design in the papers shows through the stamping and adds yet another detail!

On the new Pink Paislee Wood Shop letters, I chose to dress them up with a small sentiment stamp that says, “life is beautiful”. Keep in mind the scale of the stamp. Since the letters are rather skinny, I chose a small font for the sentiment on the wood letters. I’m not sure what it is about dimension, but I can’t get enough of adding dimension to my work. These new Wooden Spools you see below (black) are adorable! I couldn’t wait to use them in my album. They are dimensional, but they don’t stick up too high, so they are great for layouts as well!

The next detail I wanted to add are these tabs to the top of the album. When making a mini album, I love to see things sticking out of the book to really entice the viewer to want to see what’s inside!  Again I used patterned paper here on two of the tabs and machine stitched across them to add another dimension and detail to them.

On the first inside spread, I wanted to use this big photo of my daughter Taylor and write a note to her about what I’m grateful for. Since she is the older daughter, sometimes I feel like I don’t give her enough attention and love compared to my little one who needs more help with things, and therefore gets more attention. I wanted to write a special note to her to tell her just how much I love the young woman she’s growing into! I chose to write the note on vellum instead of the patterned paper. I love, love this patterned paper on the left and didn’t want to cover it up!

On the second page spread, I used a photo that I really love of my girls spending time together to show how grateful I am for the happy moments we have together!

I used a little strip of a paper doily and layered two of the same stamped images together, just in slightly different ink colors.

Another photo I treasure here. I used another of the Wooden Spools and a button and twine to create a faux “enclosure”. I think it helps draws your eye to the photo.

To add depth to the envelope, I stamped it, flicked white paint on it with a toothbrush and added some hand dyed seam binding. I wrote a little note about the picture and tucked it inside the envelope.

An inexpensive detail you can make yourself is a little tab. Just stamp a sentiment three times onto kraft paper, add some white paint splashes and a bit of machine stitching. Trim with decorative scissors. I even like to leave the ends of the thread attached and dangling.

I plan to add many, many more pages to my book, however this is the last page I will show you today. One of the details on this spread I want to talk about is the patterns I used.  Adding three patterns – one large pattern like the to/from sticker, one medium like the green/blue paper, and one small pattern like the Chevron stripes, will really add interest to your design. I wrote another note inside the vintage book paper, folded it in thirds and added it to my book. I love tucking notes and things into my books that my girls will find one day and be able to read from me.

I made my own little tab to adhere to this sticker and added some Daily Junque – Twine.

Repeating a stamp is a fun way to add detail to plain old cardstock. When finished with all of these pages, I tied the book together with embroidery floss, an inexpensive way to do so!

I hope that gave you some inspiration to add more details to your work as well! Please let me know if you have any questions. Almost all of the products here are Pink Paislee. The Gratitude stamps and ribbon are made by Papertrey Ink and the envelope is by Maya Road. Thanks for reading today!

Sasha’s Designs For Pink Paislee (Featuring The Soiree Collection)

If you look closely at this layout you will realize two things right away; the first thing I noticed is that Sasha chose not to include any photos on her project which leaves us to admire her collage of artistic elements! The second thing that caught our eye was the fact that Sasha used our Printed Tissue Sheets as the background for her art; what appears to be a translucent piece of paper is actually printed tissue from our Daily Junque Collection!  So cool!

I love how Sasha includes fun die cut shapes on every layout.  The apples are just so adorable and the die cut numbers really stand out against the yellow background!

This looks like it will fit in the palm of my hand and we just love how she used the papers to cover those adorable bottle caps!

There are no words.  That folded paper flower is amazing!  Such detail!

If we have learned one thing about Sasha Holloway it is this: She’s UNIQUE, She’s ECLECTIC & She ROCKS!

Thank you so much Sasha for inspiring us to create something just for the fun of it! Want to see more of Sasha’s designs?  Head over to HER BLOG to say hello and be sure to tell her Pink Paislee sent you!

Bits and Pieces {Short Stories}

Hi everyone I always enjoy using all the different bits and pieces that Pink Paislee put together in their collections, there is no shortage of  all  things to make a layout fun.

Today I am showing you a layout that I created using the “Daily Junque Collection” using a tiny Passport Photo that I just love and wanted to document.  This was Chaise’s first ever Passport Photo, and I wanted to remember just how hard it was to get this photo.

Poor Chaise was not allowed to smile or laugh, and by the time we had finished I thought he was going to cry, I felt so very bad.  We must have taken a least 50 photos to finally end up with the end result – and here it is.

I created the Title by using the gorgeous “Expression Cushion Alphabets in Merinque” and “Old School Glitter Alpha Stickers, I placed my journaling to the left hand side of the layout so it followed the flow of the layout with the embellishments, it says “It was so hard for Chaise , as he was not allowed to smile” , I will never forget this.

Here are some close ups of the embellisments and photo.

I also kept the receipt for the photos which I rolled up and stuck to the top of the layout on the left hand side.

I also cut out bits and pieces of papers and chipboard embellishments to finish of the layout.

Other Materials Used:

Daily Junque “Junque Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “News Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “Tabs Pattern Paper”
Daily Junque “Clear Stamps”

Thanks so much for popping by, and I hope you have fun creating with a photo that is a little different from usual.

Designer Details

Hello everyone! Karola here with some designer details to share :)

Quite a long time I thought about what I can show you as my favorite details or the techniques associated with the details, because in all my projects are usually lots of them! I decided to show you how you can customize the Pink Paislee products to your needs and how with a little effort you can create rich in details page.

Here is my LO “Celebrate Life ” created using mainly Soiree collection, on the photo: me and my daughter Rose – when I was young (ha ha) and when she was so tiny, a 6 years ago – this is one of my fav photos from these times :)

It is widely known that I love all kinds of layers – here too I created several. I created layers using Soiree – Mini Notes & Labels . Because the party theme did not fit into my photo, some subtitles and elements is hidding, layering technique well suited to this. For example – two stickers in the circle shape –  I needed only a few circles in the blue color (without subtitles):

Another way to add interesting detail is cut out frames from diecuts cards. Such a frame perfectly matched to my photo.

Sometimes we need to hide our precious stuff, journaling and memorabilia – there is nothing more perfect than the clear cards, I used one from Sweetness collection, I just sewed it using a sewing machine. In the pocket I put a few colored cards Soiree – Mini Notes & Labels – the first: may be an additional decoration on our page, and second – you can write something on them.

Let’s return to the layers – I just love, when it is a lot of them, and you? With a small paper embellies  such as Soiree – Flags or Soiree – Dimensional Stickers you can create many beautiful, colorful layers. Some of them you can stick with 3d foam. Do you already have used Pink Paislee wooden shapes? If not – I strongly encourage! It’s one of those details that we can freely customize to your needs! I colored mine on blue and green using dabber paint and stick it with a small 3d cubes – that was another and last layer.

I hope that this amount of details encourage you to their own tests and experiments. Devil is in the details, right?! Thank you for your attention and invite you to visit the Pink Paislee blog every day!
