Take Five Friday

Hello everyone! Karola here again with another project created with fantastic Hocus Pocus collection ! I hope that our month of Hocus Pocus inspired you to create a lot of wonderful layouts, cards and altered items, not just in theme of Halloween. My DT friends have already shown how you can use a great Halloween theme collection to create something not related to Halloween. Today I also show you a project, that is not a Halloween theme, but … I think it will be a little surprising.
Today we have Friday and as tradition says I should use only 5 Pink Paislee products. So I chose a few of those that inspired me to create Lo with me in the main role. Does everybody has a dark side of youself? I think so! Sometimes we do or say foolish things, and sometimes we have bad days, sometimes we are really mad – then we show a piece of our dark side.
I found my pictures, which look different than usual, quite dark and mysterious – there is no place for pastels and delicate accessories! I wanted to show my dark side (LOL! Maybe a little darker than the pastels) – that I love horror movies, love to read thrillers, that sometimes I want to revel in the rhythm of punk rock, sometimes I’m crazy. Not everyday. Sometimes!

I found two photos, so one of them, the smaller ones – I wanted to stand out in some way. I used for this Hocus Pocus – Adornment Frame . I remove a green plaque from the inside and in this place pasted a photo. I put green plaque in the another place of layout! Let’s see:

As you can see here – Usage  Hocus Pocus – Clear Cards for interesting photo matting! I think it’s a great way to highlight our photos!

Tuesday Tips and Clear Cards

Hi there! Karola here again with my very first Halloween Layout in my life! So… dear ladies…  don’t laughing, don’t judge please!
In my country – Poland – we do not celebrate Halloween, but I really wanted to try create something with our amazing Hocus Pocus collection! I found a photo of Rose, on which she is one year old and she stay on the stairs with really funny pose – she wanted to scare us! It seems to me that I never used this photo, mainly because it technically is not good, but this time I thought it would fit – even the red-eye effect, which I not edited!

However today we have a Tuesday, in which we normally present on this blog: titles, techniques and/or tips, so I have for you today a very simple tip, through which we can hide our journaling, additional photos or a secret treasure!

I thought how amazing are Hocus Pocus – Clear Cards and decided to use it! I created a pocket for a tag, which I wrote my journaling. These plastic cards can stick with a very strong and quick drying glue, but I decided to sew it to the layout – this will be very durable, even if I wanted to add something in the future in this pocket. Fantastic is that the most part of these cards is transparent, so you can see what is inside, and if we choose the color tag, cards, which are to be fit in it – everything will fit together perfectly!

In the Clear Card pocket I put a small tag cutting from Hocus Pocus – Good Fortune paper.

Here you can see how ejecting tag with my journaling:

Here’s an empty pocket, to save space on the layout and create an additional ornament I made small banner using the Hocus Pocus cardstock stickers, these are available in the Hocus Pocus Collection Craft Kit :

At the Clear Card pocket is also a place for the title!

I encourage you to create a transparent pockets, envelopes, and secret, interactive places on your pages and albums – thanks to this our layouts not only looks beautiful, but can accommodate more precious memories!

And let me share a little bit more details for the end, because as I belive – we all love the close ups!

Monochromatic Monday

Hey everyone!  It’s Lynn here again with today’s edition of Monochromatic Monday.  With Halloween just around the corner and pumpkin picking in full swing it was inevitable that my color for my project today would be orange.

I decided to scrap some “oldies but goodies” photos of my oldest son Darian in one of our local pumpkin patches.  I used the Architecural Arch patterned paper from the Parisian Anthology collection as I loved it’s subtle graph pattern.  I arranged my photographs in a column and then double matted them using both sides of the Witching Hour patterned paper from the Hocus Pocus collection.  I then set this aside to work on my background and title.  I had a lot of fun creating my title for this layout as I wanted it to be one of my main page elements.  I used the Weathered Wood Chipboard Expressions to spell out the word “patch” and then misted my entire paper with orange mist.  I then peeled away the chipboard letters and was left with a great negative space for the basis of my title.  This is one of my favorite techniques and I actually have one set of Weathered Wood Chipboard Expressions that I use solely for this purpose.  I then added the rest of my title using the Hocus Pocus Glitter Alphabet Stickers.  Here’s a close up of my title work …

My photos had some splashes of green in them and I couldn’t resist adding a few of my own to my layout using the Good Fortune patterned paper from the Hocus Pocus collection.  A few pieces of patterned paper here and there punched with my trusty scallop border punches as well as some hand stitching using natural twine and my layout is complete.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Wednesday Words – jack-o’-lantern

Today is Word t Wednesday, and with Halloween just around the corner, I decided to keep with the holiday theme.  We just love Halloween in our household.  I think part of it has to do with the fact that my husband’s birthday is just two days before Halloween, but also there is the the candy, the dressing up, and of course, the jack-o’-lanterns.  We get 4 pumpkins every year, and we always have a blast carving them.  With all the templates out now, you can carve pumpkins with some awesome designs, but every year my pumpkin is always the same… a happy jack-o’-lantern with a big silly grin.  So with that in mind, my project today was inspired by the jack-o’-lanterns I love to create at Halloween.

This layout is about my daughter, who dressed up like a hobo last year for Halloween.  Since I love to play with titles, I decided to embellish the ‘O’s in the word hobo as jack-o’-lanterns.  The layout uses paper and embellishments from the Hocus Pocus, Expressions Alphabets, and Artisan Elements collections.

I used the frame inserts from the Artisan Elements Frames to make my jack-o’-lantern ‘O’s.  I inked the frames, and let them dry.  Then, on each, I used two buttons for eyes and cut out the mouth shape from cardstock and adhered it to the frame.  After placing jack-o’-lantern shapes on the layout, I used my craft knife to cut about a 1/4″ slit in the frame of seam, and I threaded some hemp cord through for the handle.

I also made a little spider using two small flourishes from the Artisan Elements Swirls.  I inked the flourishes, and let them dry.  I then adhered them to layout, and attached two buttons between them for the head and body.

Products used:

Artisan Elements:  Frames, Swirls

Hocus Pocus:  Witching HourGood Fortune, Skeleton Soiree, Collection Craft Kit, Canvas Borders

Expressions Alphabets:  Cushies Alphabet-Lemon, Weathered Wood-Cotton

I hope that this inspires you to get creative with your embellishments and titles.  Have a wonderful Halloween, and Happy Creating!   :)

Thursday Trend: Vellum

Good morning! It’s getting closer and closer to Halloween here in the states, so I wanted to create a Halloween card to share with you using one of my favorite trends right now – vellum. Yes, vellum is making a come back! Here I’ve printed out my own saying onto a piece of vellum with my computer.

Here is how I make these titles in Photoshop:

1. Open a new document 8 1/2 x 11″. Make sure the resolution is set to 300 pixels per inch to get a nice clear image. Also set the background as “transparent”.

2. Next, click the TYPE tool. If you can’t see your tools, you need to go to Window and then Tools. Make sure there is a check mark next to tools. You should see the tool palette open up. Select the T.

3. On your document, hold your mouse and drag to open up a new box. Select the font you want and the size. I used “Edwardian” for the script font and “Times New Roman”. It’s fun to mix and match them! Type your saying. Click the check mark at the top right of your screen to accept. I changed the 12:00 to a gray color to mix it up a bit. You can add several of these text boxes and move them around to overlay each other as well, as I did with the 12:00….see how it overlaps the rest of the saying a little bit?

4. When finished, go to Layer, and Flatten Image. This will merge all of your text boxes that you have created and creates it as one image.  Save and print right onto a piece of vellum. Apply to your card with a vellum adhesive. Done!

Pink Paislee supplies used:

Hocus Pocus Doodads, Hocus Pocus – Hocus Pocus paper, and Sweetness – Sweetest Day paper.
