Coredinations Blog Hop Day 5

It’s our final day of the Core’dinations blog hop!  For today’s project I chose to use the Nantucket line to showcase some vacation photos. I love the texture of Core-dinations cardstock and how the patterns change when you lightly sand them. I love the geometric circle pattern and used both the ivory and teal cardstock on the page.

To add some dimension and interest to the circular pattern, I used tiny pearls and randomly glued them in the center of the pattern. I was lucky enough to find some flat-back pearls in the exact shade of teal as the Core-dinations cardstock. I like how it adds texture, but still blends into the background a bit.

The umbrella was embellished with a bit of trim from the Nantucket line and a simple string bow.

Making Paper Garlands

I love this picture of my husband and son and wanted to do something special to highlight it. I’ve been toying with the idea of paper garlands and decided to go with a string of hearts and buttons.

I started by laying out the twine and measuring out the space needed for the hearts. I placed the buttons down randomly to add bits of color and dimension. The background paper is a ledger from the Vintage Vogue collection. After deciding on the Silhouette heart shape (by Amy Tangerine), I cut nine 3×3 squares from the Petite Packs of the Nantucket and Vintage Vogue lines. I like using these scaled down prints whenever I cut out my own die cuts.

The hearts were cut out at 2×2 and I used a 1/8″ hole punch to make a hole through the center. I could’ve used the Silhouette to add this as well, but didn’t think of it until after I had cut the hearts out. I also used the Silhouette to cut  a strip of patterned paper from the Vintage Vogue line into a honeycomb pattern.

I strung the twine with alternating hearts, journaling and Vintage Vogue Spool Buttons. I stacked up a bunch of scraps and one of the heart negatives to make a mat for my photo. I like the soft, vintage look of this page while still keeping the focus on the photo. The twine garland is an easy way to add a little of the extra special something to your page!

Spooky Sketches

Every once in a while I like to put my sketch book down and follow a different type of design. That’s why I love Page Maps so much. It provides the perfect blueprint for a page and let’s me stretch my style. I chose this sketch because I like all of the white space and linear style.

I followed most of the sketch pretty closely. I did fill up some of the white space, because that’s my natural style. Because I used more paper than the sketch called for, I also had less room for pictures.

I used the Phantom collection almost exclusively, except for the paper flower which is from Vintage Vogue. I love how the pea green and fancy feel of Phantom went well with these pictures of my niece dressed up as Tinkerbell.

My favorite part of the layout is the fringe and the twine design at the bottom. I anchored the paper flower on a Phantom sticker and then placed a brad in the center. The other side of my ‘slide’ is made up of a brad and some jewels. I wound the twine around both to make a small banner. This adds an interesting touch of design to an otherwise simple page.

The next time you need a design shortcut, try Page Maps and a little Phantom doesn’t hurt either!

Creating With The Cricut {Phantom Decor}

I’m getting ready for our annual family Halloween party and what better way to do it than with my Cricut and some beautiful papers from the Phantom line. I decided last minute to create a small tablescape of desserts and candy for our party. I’m running out of time, but I still wanted to make something unique – and quick!

I bought the dish and stand at our local craft store because I liked the shape and gothic feel of the piece. I made a little row of coffins with the Cricut Happy Hauntings cartridge. These were cut at 8-1/2″ and fit perfectly in the tray. They are a great size for filling with candy and chocolate.  Each little coffin was decorated with a paper flower from the the Vintage Vogue line and topped off with a Phantom brad.

I placed the large “Spooky” sticker in the center of  my twine garland. I then used two more paper flowers (with black jewel brads from the Phantom line) to decorate the actual tray.

Supplies Used:

Phantom Paper

Phantom Element Stickers

Phantom Brads

Vintage Vogue Paper Rosettes

These were so simple and fun to make. I think that they will finish off our “spooky” dessert table nicely. When you are decorating for Halloween this year don’t forget your Cricut and a little Phantom!

Studio Tour Featuring Nancy Damiano

Hi everyone! Nancy here with a tour of one of my favorite spaces in our home. It’s our fourth bedroom and the smallest room in the house. At just 10×11, it is tiny and packed full of my favorite things.

Since the space really needed to be maximized, I had the doors taken off of this closet in order to open up the room.  This also makes getting to things easier . The white shelving is a closet organizer that I bought at Home Depot years ago. This space houses cardstock, tools, punches, adhesives, old magazines, older embellishments by themes (in the black binders) and my Clip it Up. The drawers hold miscellaneous “stuff”, photos and bulky tools.

This is my tool workstation area. I have my sewing machine, cutting tools, computer and printer all along this one wall space.  Underneath I store projects in process, memorabilia, design team collections, and scraps. I have two large  wall shelves (old Making Memories) that hold tags, paint, mists, and basics that never go out of style.

On the other side of the room, I have an Expedit and matching desk from Ikea.  I love the wide work space and all of those cubbies hold all of my newer supplies. The clear trays hold patterned paper by collection and the brown baskets hold all of the coordinating embellishments. The paisley boxes are full of alphabets, adhesives and altered stuff.

My cardstock is stored in these huge galvanized metal bins that I bought at Lowes. I like to keep cardstock out and be able to thumb through so I can find the colors that I’m looking for. I can store a lot of cardstock in a compact space this way. There are a total of 4 bins stored around the room. And last but not least, the most important sign in the room – a reminder to keep calm!  This is my “view” when I scrap and it really does help me to remember to take things one at a time.

Thanks so much for stopping by and visiting one of my favorite spaces!
