Four not-too-scary photos

Hi Pink Paislee fans! It’s me Karola again. This time I want to share a layout I created using our beautiful Phantom collection, but in a non-Halloween theme. Ok, maybe a little bit… ;)

I believe that in every woman there is a little bit of a witch personality. I hope this is not a controversial opinion. Just remember all these nervous times when you simply go out of ourselves, we have totally enough of everything, nerves to bear us, and we are really horrible! Although on a daily basis we are quite nice and gentle ladies! I too have these days, and sometimes I feel really like a witch! My task for today was: make a Lo with four photos. Unfortunately, I don’t have any scary photos of me, I have nothing of what would be in Halloween theme, so I used quite ordinary photos – without a crooked witch nose, no pimples or scars, even without botox! But I decided to add some funny accents on photos and next to them. Thanks to Phantom collection it was very easy! See how you can easily create an “about me” layout with a great sense of black humor and distance to yourself!

I decided to add a one more color to this Halloween palette to make it a little bit different and unique. Used Mistables paper as a background with a “broken china” distress ink and a few Mistables Alphas. I love this color combination! I used here some of Phantom – Clear Transparent Frames, they are absolutely perfectly clear and very thick, so you can use it on your photos!

How do I add a little femininity to my LO – flowers are the best! You can use these from Phantom – Banner Kit.

Hot Hues Color Inspiration October

Hi there! It’s Mona Pendleton here today as a Guest on the Pink Paislee blog. Today I have the fun October Hot hues inspiration graphic for you:

Such an awesome color palette that coordinates wonderfully with the Phantom collection!

Although the Phantom collection contains many products that may be used to create projects year round, I was inspired by this fab graphic to create a Halloween mini album that is jam packed with Phantom goodness.

Starting with the cover, I stamped a few images using Phantom – Clear Stamps above and below a ticket  shaped sticker from Phantom – Element Stickers:

The Phantom – Element Stickers pack contains so many spooktacular stickers! The page shown below features another ticket shaped sticker and a stamped cameo image:

I embellished this page featuring my step daughter Meredith with a home made rosette made using a piece of Phantom Pattern Paper – Apparition featuring a beautiful brad from Phantom – Brads and a piece of black lace from Vintage Vogue – Ribbon Trim:

Lovin’ the variety of patterns from the Mistables – 12 x 12 Paper and how easily color may be added, making them totally customizable for ANY project. The page below features an inked green “honey comb” patterned Mistables paper with a fun image from Phantom – Clear Stamps:

I made a little sentiment banner by stamping the Creepy image from Phantom – Clear Stamps on a piece of Claudine Hellmuth’s sticky back canvas:

Having a blast creating with Mistables – 12 x 12 Paper, I die cut this Spooky house, painted the pieces then stitched them on the page and topped it off with the HAUNTED sticker from Phantom – Element Stickers:

Lastly, this page features the ornate large SPOOKY sticker from Phantom – Element Stickers:

LOVE how the black acrylic paint makes the beautiful embossed patterns on the Mistables – 12 x 12 Paper pop:

Remember the Phantom collection contains many products that may be used to create projects year round making it another versatile Pink Paislee collection!

I hope you enjoyed my project today and are inspired to play with the October Hot hues colors! Looking forward to seeing what you create! Please remember to link your project here and upload it to the Live Pink Gallery as well.

Product Pick: Phantom Chipboard Alphas

Hi everyone! I am back to tell you all about the Phantom Chipboard Alphas. I’ve already told you all about what an alpha-fanatic I am and how much I love to color my own alphas to make sure they match my layouts perfectly. These Phantom alphas are no exception!

I will admit that while I love chipboard for its affordability and versatility,  I am not a big fan of its color. I am always annoyed that I have to cover my chipboard with gesso before I paint it or the color won’t show properly. What’s awesome about these alphas is that they are already white! So you don’t need to create a base coat. You can just color the alpha directly. It might sound silly but this makes me very happy.

So, for my layout, the first thing I did was to color my word with pan pastels.

Another wonderful feature of these alphas is that they have the subtle green lines. They show through the pan pastels beautifully. I love the small green tint under the blue.

For the other main word, in my layout, I wanted to try inks so I pulled out my Distress Inks and picked a shade of green I liked. The ink went on beautifully  and the green lines on the alphas came to the surface in this case. I loved the effect that created on my letters.

Once I had all my letters colored, I was ready to put my layout together:

Don’t those letters look awesome?  I love how they match my photos and how they look different from each other.

I wanted to mention two other things I did on my layout. I used a Transparent Frame that was larger than my photo because I wanted the oranges to stick out more. I loved how it brought out the pumpkins in the photo.

As you can also see in the photo above and below, I placed the Brads so they are sticking out a bit on the side and on the bottom. Since this made my layout slightly larger than 12×12, I trimmed a quarter of an inch from the right side and from the top so that my layout would still easily fit into the page protector.

There you go!  If you’ve experimented with your Phantom alphas, please share them with us in the Live Pink Gallery, I would love to see all the different ways you’ve altered yours!

Spooky Sketches

Every once in a while I like to put my sketch book down and follow a different type of design. That’s why I love Page Maps so much. It provides the perfect blueprint for a page and let’s me stretch my style. I chose this sketch because I like all of the white space and linear style.

I followed most of the sketch pretty closely. I did fill up some of the white space, because that’s my natural style. Because I used more paper than the sketch called for, I also had less room for pictures.

I used the Phantom collection almost exclusively, except for the paper flower which is from Vintage Vogue. I love how the pea green and fancy feel of Phantom went well with these pictures of my niece dressed up as Tinkerbell.

My favorite part of the layout is the fringe and the twine design at the bottom. I anchored the paper flower on a Phantom sticker and then placed a brad in the center. The other side of my ‘slide’ is made up of a brad and some jewels. I wound the twine around both to make a small banner. This adds an interesting touch of design to an otherwise simple page.

The next time you need a design shortcut, try Page Maps and a little Phantom doesn’t hurt either!

Simple Stories: Focusing on Journaling

Hello, and happy fall to you! It makes it so much fun to scrap Halloween photos from past years when the leaves are falling and the weather is getting cool, like it is here in New York right now! The gorgeous fall colors outside my window are so inspiring to me.

Well, today I am focusing on journaling on layouts. This was a very hard challenge for me, because I would say journaling is my weakest attribute in scrapbooking. Sometimes it’s hard for me to think of what to say about my photos. Usually I just write dates and names. But…I thought of a story I wanted to share with you about some of our past Halloween pictures!

A couple of Halloweens ago when my youngest daughter Kati was 3 years old, Taylor, my older daughter, decided she wanted to be a vampire – you know, something SCARY. So we had found this cool bat-like costume and was going to do Taylor’s makeup, add vampire teeth, etc. One night before Halloween, I wanted to put on her makeup to see how it would look. She wanted blood running down her chin. We had her face all made up, and Kati came in the bathroom to see. She started crying!! We quickly decided the blood would not be an option that year. ha

I titled the layout, “Spooky, But No Blood” and since the story was so important to the layout, I added the title and story right in the center.

I printed out two of my favorite photos of her from that Halloween in a 4×6″ size. A Phantom Element Sticker (SPOOKY) goes great with my title. I also used some older Pink Paislee alphas that are still my favorite. The orange sticker letters are older also, from the Hocus Pocus Glitter Sticker Alphabet. I added some yellow paper in from the Nantucket line to add just one more color. The bat is just hand cut. I was going to stitch some scallops at the top to resemble the bat wings, but I decided cutting cardstock in this shape would work just as well…and be less time consuming.

A journaling tip for you: cut a piece of transparency the size that you need and place it on your page. Write your journaling directly onto the transparency with a Sharpie. This way if you make a mistake, you can remove it. You can also slide it around to see where you would like it to be.

I added a piece of a Phantom sticker and a Phantom brad to the photo.

Sometimes I forget that scrapbooking is all about telling the stories, so this was a terrific challenge for me, and I enjoyed it very much! Your own handwriting will be special to those who see your layouts years from now, so use it, even if you don’t think it looks good on your layouts. Some day it will be meaningful to others to see your writing!
